HUBERT EUGENE ROSENBAUM POUND, VA – Hubert Rosenbaum, 69, entered into the presence of his personal savior, Jesus Christ Tuesday April 26, 2016 from the Holston Valley Medical Center-Kingsport, TN. He was surrounded by his loving family. Hubert was born and raised in Bristol, TN. He and his wife Shirl had recently moved to Pound from Spring, TX. He was veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a retired motor coach driver with 44 years of experience with over 3 million miles driven. Hubert loved to drive, touring and meeting people. He was an avid reader, especially John Grisham books, and enjoyed cooking. He loved his pets, 3 cats and a dog. He loved his family and his country, but was most grateful for his salvation. Hubert was a born again Christian. Hubert was preceded in death by his biological parents Albert and Grace Rosenbaum; and his parents that raised him, Jesse P. Currey and Stella Virginia Willis Currey Hoover. Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Shirl (Lehman) Rosenbaum; a daughter, Sandra Marie Rosenbaum Bullins and husband Danny-Fayetteville, AR; a son Jesse Eugene Rosenbaum-Spring, TX; grandchildren Christian Nicole Bullins, Thorin Rosenbaum and Phaedra Rosenbaum ; great grandson, Zachary Bullins; sisters, Gail M. Currey-Pound, VA and Susan Currey Baldwin and husband Darrell-Kingsport, TN; special nephew Wes Baldwin; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory Hubert was an organ donor, passing the precious gift of life on to others. As per his wishes, his body will be cremated. Memorial service will be conducted at 1;00 pm Saturday April 30, 2016 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Daniel Dent and Brother Carmen Gentry officiating. JOHN RAY STANLEY WISE, VA – John Ray Stanley, 77, departed this life on Sunday April 24, 2016 from the Mountain View Regional Medical Center-Norton, VA after an extended illness. His family was by his side. John was a simple man who enjoyed life. He had many jobs throughout his life and always felt he should give and honest days work for his wages. John was preceded in death by his parents, John Clinton Stanley and Stella (Shupe) Stanley; and siblings, Mary jane Stanley, Loren Stanley, Jane Stanley, Clyde Stanley, George Stanley and Sue Kilgore. Survivors include his former wife, special friend and companion, Corena McQuarry-Wise, VA, sisters, Debra Phillips-Charleston, SC and Hazel Hall- Pound, VA; brothers, Donald Stanley-Wise, VA and Jessee Stanley-Coeburn, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory. WILLIAM WATSON MEADE POUND. VA – William Watson Meade, 80, entered into his eternal home Friday April 22, 2016 from the Johnston Memorial Hospital-Abingdon, VA. His loving family was by his side. Watson was a Christian of the Baptist faith and attended Ferbie Chapel Church in Pound, VA. He was a retired coal miner with over 40 years of experience and a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, yardwork and gardening. He was also known as being the family historian, but what he truly loved was spending time with his grandchildren. Watson was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Watson Meade and Georgia (McCoy) Meade; and four sisters, infant Emma Esther Meade, Clara Lucille Meade Vanover, Mary June Meade Sears and Ina Joyce Meade Sawyers. SHELIA HOPKINS POUND, VA- Shelia Hopkins, 48, entered into eternity Thursday April 21, 2016 from the Holston Valley Medical Center- Kingsport, TN. She was surrounded by her loving family. Shelia was a Christian of the Baptist faith. She was a loving mother, sister, fiancé , aunt, cousin and friend. Shelia was always caring for other people, whether it be being family, friends or her patients. Shelia was an LPN nurse for 36years, 27of them spent at Heritage Hall-Wise, VA. She enjoyed fishing, hiking, hunting, spending time on Facebook and just enjoying her family. Shelia was preceded in death by her parents, Coy Lee Hopkins and Goldie Mae (Rose) Hopkins; an infant son, Charles Frazier Jr; a sister, Kathy Lee Hopkins. JAMES MICHAEL GILLIAM POUND, VA – James Michael Gilliam, 55, entered into eternity Wednesday April 6, 2016 from Mountain View Regional Medical Center-Norton, VA. Mike was of the Christian faith and was a former carpenter/drywaller and surface miner.. He enjoyed the outdoors and liked fishing and hunting for dry land fish. He was an animal lover, especially dogs. Mike was an avid musician, he could play the guitar, the drums and the keyboard and played in several bands. He liked all kinds of music, but he especially loved classic rock and roll. But Mike’s greatest joy was spending time with and taking care of his grandkids. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ercell and Frances (Mullins) Gilliam; paternal grandparents, Leonard and Paralee (Maggard) Gilliam; maternal grandparents, Maggie and Richard Mullins; and brother Johnny Ward. FREDDY ALLEN STURGILL WISE, VA- Freddy Allen Sturgill, 60, passed away Wednesday April 2016 from Norton Community Hospital.He was surrounded by his loving family. Freddy was a born again Christian and a member of the Zion Family Ministry Church. He was raised in Pound, VA and earned his living as a coal miner until becoming disabled. Freddy was a Mr. Fix It and always enjoyed any kind of tinkering. He also enjoyed playing golf, cars, four wheelers, fishing and playing in the hay fields and debating about anything and everything.. He enjoyed people and had many friends. Freddy was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Earnest “Pete” Sturgill; and his brothers, James, Donald, Jack, Douglas and James (from Ohio) Sturgill. JUDY LOU POWERS POUND, VA- Judy Lou Powers, 67, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday April 5, 2016 from the Johnson City Medical Center. She was surrounded by her loving family. Judy was a Christian of the Freewill Baptist faith and a member of Ferbie Chapel Church. She worked as a sales clerk at Walmart and Food City. Judy enjoyed traveling, cooking for her family and going out to eat at the Pine Mountain Grill, she was an avid reader, but what gave her the greatest joy was the love she had for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Elizabeth (Browning) Owens and a brother, Richard Owens. SHIRLEY JACQUELINE MULLINS POUND, VA – Mrs. Shirley Mullins, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday April 4, 2016 from the Mountain View Regional Medical Center- Norton, VA. She was surrounded by her family and friends. Shirley was a born again Christian and attended Valley View Freewill Baptist Church in Clintwood and was former member of the Flat Gap Missionary Baptist Church. She lived her entire life in Pound, VA and loved playing basketball in her younger years and was captain of the team. She attended Milligan College. Her favorite things she enjoyed were fishing, hunting and gardening. She was a former school teacher and she took a particular interest in her students at Dewey, Flat Gap and Pound. Shirley was a jack of all trades and a real firecracker. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Florence (Short) Cox:sisters, Dorothy Coyer and Ruth Osborne; and a brother, Clayford Cox. JOHNNY LESTER HAMPTON SR POUND, VA,- Johnny Lester Hampton Sr. (Country), 59, has left these beautiful mountains, but is now walking in the Kingdom of Heaven. He passed away peacefully at his home on April 2, 2016. Johnny was a devoted Christian of the Baptist faith and a very proud member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a true Warrior for the Lord. Country was a dedicated underground coal miner for 33 years. Coal mining was in his blood and he loved all of his mining brothers. Johnny was a simple man that loved everything about being a country boy. His idea of a perfect day would be lying on the river bank, fishing pole in hand with his toes pointing to the sky. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Cincinnati Bengals and Kentucky Wildcats. This country boy got to see a lot of this wonderful country and witness God’s amazing creations. Johnny was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Lester Hampton and his favorite coon dog, Julie. FREDERICK RAY KEITH WISE, VA – Frederick Ray Keith, 72, entered into eternity Friday April 1, 2016 from the Mountain View Medical Center-Norton, VA after long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Fred was a Christian of the Baptist faith and attended the Duncan Gap Freewill Baptist Church. He was born July 11, 1943 to the late Newton Melver Keith and Margaret Gertrude Allen. Fred grew up in Wise then married Fay Etta Mullins and moved to Manassas, VA where they lived and raised their family. After retirement from Virginia Concrete with more than 30 years of service they moved back to Wise. Fred was a wonderful husband and a loving father and grandfather as well as a great brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and sitting on his back porch target shooting. He also enjoyed watching westerns and old shows like Mayberry on television. But his greatest joy was playing with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He will be sadly missed all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Frederick was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Fay Etta (Mullins) Keith. STEVEN RAE MEADE POUND, VA – Steven Rae Meade, 41, entered into eternity Friday March 11, 2016 from his residence. Steven was of the Baptist faith, he was a 1993 graduate of Pound High School. He enjoyed yardwork, gardening and helping people with their chores. He also enjoyed watching sports on television, especially baseball, football and Nascar racing. Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Emory Clarence and Margaret (Privett) Triplett Meade; a sister, Sheila Marie Triplett; his grandparents, Sam and Edna Privett and Arthur and Lizzie Meade; and an uncle, Kyle Meade. VALERIE LYNNE McCOY POUND, VA – Valerie Lynne McCoy , 53, entered into eternity Friday March 11, 2016. Valerie was of the Christian faith , she was a 1979 graduate of Pound High School and a former employee of AT&T at the Virginia Relay Center in Norton., VA with 21 years of service. Valerie loved riding motorcycles, she was a free spirit, always a dreamer and full of wit. She enjoyed reading and even wrote a book, “While Gazing at Stars”. She also was artistic and did lots of crafts including cross stitching. Valerie had a generous and compassionate spirit, always giving to and helping others, she was a loving daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend. She also loved animals , especially cats. Valerie was preceded in death by her grandparents Hoflin and Anita(Bolling) Fleming and Kermit and Ada McCoy. TOMMY WAYNE CANTRELL POUND, VA – Tom Cantrell, 64, went home to be with his Lord Tuesday March 8, 2016 from his residence. His loving and devoted wife Denise was by his side. Tom was a Christian of the Baptist faith and was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a former carpenter with over 40 years experience and a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting and restoring knives, collecting pocket watches, collecting Indian artifacts, studying geology and rock formations, going to flee markets and going to church. Tom played the guitar and loved his Martin and Henderson guitars and enjoyed listening to bluegrass music. Tom loved children and loved his nieces and nephews like they were his own children. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Early and Veatrice (Robinson) Cantrell; a sister, Connie Akers; and brothers, Jack Cantrell and Arnold Cantrell and his beloved cat, Roscoe. He was really a jack of all trades, and was willing to do whatever needed to be done. A.J. enjoyed life, he especially liked being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. OLGA N. HENSLEY POUND, VA- Mrs. Olga N. Hensley, 92, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Friday March 4, 2016 from the Mountain View Regional Medical Center- Norton, VA. Her loving and devoted daughter, Janice was by her side. Known to her friends as “Augie”, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grand- mother, sister and friend. She was a Christian and a member of Martha’s Chapel Church for over 50 years. She was the co-owner of Hensley’s Grocery for over 25 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and preserving, and quilting. Augie was an avid reader, especially her Bible. She also liked to sing and enjoyed traveling to visit her family and friends. She was especially close to her grandchildren. Olga had a true servant’s heart, always putting others before herself. Olga was preceded in dead by her husband, P.H. (Pet) Hensley; her parents, A.M. and Mary Ann (Phillips) Stidham; sisters, Bonnie Berry and Dovie Caudill; brothers, Guy Stidham, Eddie Stidham, Garvie Stidham, Coy Stidham and Watson Stidham; step-daughter, Eleanor Hensley; and step-son Dwight Hensley. Bo was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving for 9 years and attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a former plumber and truck driver and enjoyed a good days work. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He enjoyed eating good food, a good chew of tobacco, a good beverage and watching old westerns and Judge Judy on TV. He was a retired miner with nearly 30 years of experience, having worked for Westmoreland Coal for over 24 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and yard work. He was known as being a” Prankster” and ” Jack of All Trades” always fixing and repairing things for other people. But his greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren that he loved so dearly. She was surrounded by her loving family. Shelia was born on May 16, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a Christian of the Baptist faith. She was loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Shelia had worked at the Coalfield Progress for over 30 years and was the production manager at the time of her retirement. She was an avid reader, Stephen King being her favorites, loved going to concerts and listening to all types of music and playing games on her I Pad. Shelia was preceded in death by her father, Wilburn Tompkins; a sister, Mona Faye Tompkins and her long time furry companion, Gizmo.
