PEGGY SUE DOTSON POUND, VA - Mrs. Peggy Sue Dotson, 81, entered into eternity Thursday December 8, 2016 from the Mountain View Regional Medical Center-Norton, VA after an extended illness. Her loving husband was by her side. Peggy was a retired registered nurse, working at Wise ARH Hospital-Med Surge Department and the Outpatient Department and was later the Director of Nursing for all 3 the clinics. Peggy also worked at Wise County Vocational School where she taught LPN classes for 10 years and later served as Director of the LPN program. Finally retiring in1998. Peggy was preceded in death by parents, Lloyd Bellamy and Agnes McConnell Bellamy. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, James (Trig) Dotson-Pound, VA; her sons, Brian Dotson and wife Shanna-Wise, VA and Hunter Dotson and wife Rhonda-Pound, VA; grandchildren, Bradley Dotson, Dakota Dotson, Thomas Payton Boggs (Tasha), Zackary Boggs (Caitlyn), and Jesse Owens; great- grandchildren, Bentley Hopkins, Cooper Boggs, Jada Owens and Jacquelyn England; a sister, Wayne Campbell-Bristol, TN; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Annie Brush, Jackie Orr, Ellie Riggs and Larry Dingus; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn her passing and cherish her memory. EMBER JADE MULLINS WISE, VA – Ember Jade Mullins became Heaven’s newest angel Tuesday December 6, 2016 as she left her parents to be in the care of the Lord from the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Although Ember lived only 16 days on this earth, she touched the lives of many. With her tiny frail body, she showed great strength, and inspired others. She was deeply loved and will always be cherished. Ember is survived by her parents, Forrest and Shawna (Taylor) Mullins-Wise, VA; two brothers, Brycen Mullins and Aiden Mullins- Wise, VA; her maternal grandparents, James (Speedy) and Melissa Taylor-Pound, VA; paternal grandparents, Billy and Katherine Mullins-Wise, VA; uncles, James Cody Taylor, Jesse Mullins and Dustin Belcher; aunts, Holly Mullins, Crystal Taylor, Katelyn Perry and Jacquelynn Powers Santos ; several cousins, and a host of family friends to honor her passing and cherish her memory. LARRY LESLIE SALYERS POUND, VA- Larry Leslie Salyers, 75, passed away Friday November 25, 2016 from his home. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Big Rock, VA on July 30, 1941 to Curt and Maxie (Potter) Salyer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Larry was an avid fisherman and Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan. He had been self-employed in the grocery store, motel and coal mining business. Larry is survived by his wife Brenda (Dotson) Salyers-Pound, VA; a son, Richard (Rick)Salyers and fiancé Kim Davis-Pound, VA; a daughter, Larenda Page- Haymarket, VA; grandchildren, Rikki Kaye Smith and Antonio, Spencer Salyers, Nick Pennington and Stacy, Julia Page and Ernie Page III; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Salyers, Nadia McCoo, Alexis Pennington, Lauren Pennington and Hannah Pennington; a special friend, Les Stallard and Ron Swindall; his constant companion and foot warmer, Skippy; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory. JACK DAMRON PAYNE GAP, KY - Jack Damron, 87, passed away peacefully Sunday November 20, 2016 from the Nashville Veterans Hospital with his family at his bedside. Jack was the 4th of 9 children born and raised in the Esco/Pikeville, KY area and had recently moved to Tennessee to be near his family. Jack was of the Freewill Baptist faith and a member of the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church. He was a former heavy equipment mechanic, but was a jack of all trades and could repair almost anything. In his later years he was well known for his small engine work. Jack was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the 2nd Armored Calvary Tank Division during the Korean War ( 1951-1952 ). Jack was a loving family man and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and friend. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years Annette (Fleming) on May 31, 2012; his parents, Willie “Buck” and Mary (Roberts) Damron; his sisters, Fame Johnson and Bessie Stafford; and his brothers, Bill Damron and Avery Damron. GLENDA GAIL MAGGARD LOWE POUND, VA - Glenda Gail Maggard Lowe, 65, passed from this life into her eternal resting place Friday November 18, 2016 from the Holston Valley Medical Center- Kingsport, TN after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Glenda was a Christian of the Baptist faith and attended Pyles Memorial Chapel. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Glenda was an avid reader, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting and sewing, but mostly she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. FARLEY BENTON STURGILL POUND, VA- Farley Benton Sturgill, 68, passed from this life into eternity Thursday November 17, 2016 from the Norton Community Hospital after an extended illness. Farley was a Christian of the Baptist faith and was a retired coal miner with 32 years of underground and surface experience He was a loving husband, father grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Farley was devoted to taking care of his family. Farley enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football and basketball, but his greatest joy was spending time with his children and hearing “Pop-Pop” from his great-grandchildren. Farley was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest “Pete” Sturgill and Grace (Dorton) Sturgill; and brothers, Freddy, James Ray, Donald, Jack and Douglas Sturgill. NANCY DAVIS POUND, VA - Nancy Davis, 62, went home to be the Lord on Monday November 15, 2016 from the Dickenson Community Hospital. Nancy was a Christian and member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed puzzle books, listening to gospel music and “Elvis”. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. PETE FLETCHER MEADE RURAL HALL, NC- Pete Fletcher Meade, 59, went to be with the Lord on Thursday November 3, 2016 from the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Pete attended Pound High School where he was active in sports. He was an avid NASCAR fan , Dale Earnhardt Sr and Dale Jr being his favorites. He also loved watching the San Francisco 49ers football games, pitching horseshoes and playing corn hole, basketball and football with family and friends. Pete was preceded in death by his father Fletcher Meade , his granddaughter, Morgan Synder and great nephew, Joshua Meade. WILLIAM R. ( BILL) BELCHER POUND, VA – William Russell (Poppy) Belcher , 90, entered into his eternal reward from his residence on Monday October 31, 2016 after an extended illness. Bill was a Christian and attended Hamilton Chapel Church as long as his health allowed. He was also a WWII veteran of the United States Navy onboard the USS Kermit Roosevelt and a charter member of the Pound VFW Post 9600. Bill was a retired coal miner with 40 plus years of experience and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Bill was a jack of all trades, he enjoyed playing the guitar, rocking in his rocking chair, bluegrass music, riding motor- cycles, watching sports, especially when his grandkids and great grandkids were playing, but mostly just loved spending time with his family. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bart and Betty (Mullins) Belcher; and his brothers, Bart Belcher Jr, Teddy Belcher, Alvin Belcher and Owsley Belcher. JERRY CRAWFORD POUND, VA - Jerry Crawford, 55, entered into eternity Wednesday October 19, 2016 from his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jerry was of the Baptist faith and a loving brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a former equipment operator for Little Henry Paving and Excavating, a tree trimmer and a handyman. Jerry enjoyed Karate and was a brown belt in Shao Lin karate, he also enjoyed watching boxing matches and listening to rock and roll music. He was also a kind soul and very good about helping his family, friends and neighbors with whatever tasks and projects needed to be done. Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family. EARL EUGENE VANHUSS POUND,VA – Earl Eugene VanHuss, 77, entered into his eternal reward Tuesday October 11, 2016 after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.. Earl was a Christian and a member of the Hope Freewill Baptist Church- Pound, VA. he enjoyed going to church and his church family. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from the construction/ electrical/heating and air conditioning industry, having owned his own electrical business and ceramic shop for several years. Earl was a jack- of-all-trades and could build or repair almost anything. He was constantly repairing something for his family, friends or chuch. Earl was dedicated to working and providing a living for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Roy C. JAMES A. ADAMS EOLIA, KY- James A. Adams, 66, entered into eternity Tuesday October 11, 2016 from his son’s home in Grundy, VA . His wife and son were by his side as he peacefully went to be with the Lord. James was a Christian of the Primitive Baptist faith. He was a coal miner for 20 years and a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America. He enjoyed camping at the lake, riding side by side in the mountains, visiting family and friends, but mostly loved spending with his grandchildren. GARY AMOS MAGGARD POUND, VA - Gary Amos Maggard, 69, entered eternity Thursday October 6, 2016 from his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. His family members were by his side. Gary was a Christian and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Pound, VA. He owned a carpet installing business for over 30 years. Gary was an avid outdoorsman, he loved deer and turkey hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed hunting for ginseng and bowling. Gary was a very meticulous man, paying great attention to detail in whatever he did or whatever he took care of. He was very dedicated to caring for his parents as they grew older. He was also a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. LARRY EUGENE BARKER POUND, VA – Larry Eugene Barker, 69, peacefully went home to be with the Lord Saturday October 1, 2016 from his daughter’s home in Big Stone Gap, VA. He was surrounded by his loving family. Larry was a born again Christian and a Deacon of Glady Fork Freewill Baptist Church-Pound, VA He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam Era and a member of the Pound VFW Post 9600. Larry was also a retired coal miner with nearly 20 years of experience, having worked for Scotia and Cumberland River Coal where he was also an EMT and a member of the mine rescue team. Larry’s greatest loves were the Lord, his family and his church. He loved going to Dustin’s football games, and reading his Bible. He was an avid UK Basketball fan, and enjoyed NASCAR racing, especially Dale Earnhart He also enjoyed yardwork, car shopping and going to the Walmart to socialize. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Cynthia (Collier) Barker; his sisters, Rettie Parsons, Peggy Holbrook and Doris Mullins; and his brothers, Billy Mac Barker, Sherman Eddie Barker and Bobby Joe Barker. CHARLOTTE ANN BREWER POUND, VA- Charlotte Ann Brewer, 71, passed away Tuesday September 27, 2016 from the Select Specialty Hospital- Bristol, TN with her loving daughter and family by her side. Charlotte was of the Baptist faith. She was a beautician for over 40 years and also a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed watching old classic movies on TV, working cross word puzzles and loved dining out whenever she could. PHYLLIS SUE MULLINS POUND, VA - Mrs. Phyllis Sue Mullins, 84, entered into life eternal Saturday September 17, 2016 from her residence. Her loving family was at her bedside. Phyllis was a Christian and a member of the Pound United Methodist Church. She was a retired bank teller with over 15 years of service at BB&T Bank in Pound and Wise. She was also a former audiology and visual aide with the DILENOWISCO Educational Cooperative and a former member of the Red Hats. Phyllis loved to dance and enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, her favorite song was Wildwood Flower. She enjoyed the fellowship of the Pickin’ in the Pound meetings. She also enjoyed cooking and playing with her dog, Lady. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carlos Mullins; her mother, Mabel Maxwell Mullins Palmer; her father, Zemery Mullins; her step-father, Leonard T. Palmer; and a niece, Martha Gilliam Jones. CAROLYN JEAN CANTRELL POUND, VA – Carolyn “Jeannie” Cantrell, 50, departed this world Friday September 9, 2016 from the Johnson City Medical Center. She was surrounded by her loving family. Jeannie enjoyed spending time at the family campground and adventure center by the river, but her greatest joy was spending time with her kids and grandkids. RICHARD EARL STALLARD POUND, VA- Richard Earl Stallard entered into his eternal reward Sunday September 4, 2016 from the Norton Community Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Earl was a Christian and attended Ferbie Chapel Church in Pound, VA. He retired as a bus driver for the Wise County School System with 30 plus years of service and was also a former security guard. Earl was a 1955 graduate of Pound High School and was captain of the basketball team. He enjoyed going fishing, yardwork, tending to his flower beds and watching detective shows on TV. Earl was a member of the Big Blue Nation and an avid UK Wildcat basketball fan. But his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and his grandchildren. She worked at the Beckley News Paper in the mail room for 17 plus years. She loved going to church and dressing up for church.Marcella was a loyal supporter of St. Judes Children’s Hospital. She loved shopping and buying gifts for her friends and family, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her loving family was at her bedside. Rebal was born July 8, 1921 to the late Merida and Bessie (Cantrell) Mullins Granny was a born again Christian and was a member Pyles Memorial Church-Pound, VA. She was a loving and caring wife to husband Letcher (Poodle) Boggs for 73 years before his passing December 31, 2011. She was a dedicated homemaker, always caring for her husband and children. Granny loved her church and her neighbors as well. Poodle and Granny raised gardens, and canned their harvest. She also enjoyed quilting. Granny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother, sister and friend.
