ELSIE E. MULLINS YPSILANTI, MI – Mrs. Elsie E. Mullins, 87, passed away Thursday October 23, 2014 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 23, 1927 in Jenkins, KY, the daughter of Andy and Laura (Perkins) Mullins. Elsie was a nurse at Beyer Memorial Hospital and then the University of Michigan Hospital. She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #782, the VFW Ladies Auxillary # 9600 and the Michigan Licensed Practical Nurses Association. She loved Bingo and her dogs. Survivors include her children, Paulette Sexton-Jenkins, KY and Tom (Cheryl Ward) Mullins- Ypsilanti, MI; four grandchildren, Robbie (Sherri) Sexton, Kristi Sexton, Michael (Gayle) Mullins, and Melissa (Brian) Genik; seven great-grandchildren, Brittany, Kristen, Mollie, Katie, Katelyn, Brenton and Koty; two great-great–grandsons, Caiden and Tucker; a brother, Roy Mullins- Jacksonville, FL.; several nieces and nephews; and her longtime man friend, Virgil Christophel. In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Foy Mullins; daughter-in-law, Theresa Mullins; son-in-law Brenton Sexton; grandson Jeffery Sexton; sisters, Thelma Mullins and Margaret Addington; and brothers, Kenneth Mullins, Willie Mullins and an infant brother. Prayer service will be held at 5 pm Sunday October 26, 2014 at Stark Funeral Service-Ypsilanti, MI where the visitation will be from 3 pm until time of service. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 pm Tuesday October 28, 2014 in the Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel . The family will receive friends from 5 pm until time of services. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 am Wednesday October 29, 2014 at the Arvil Mullins Cemetery-Pound, VA where family members will serve as pallbearers. CLARITA”RITA” EDNA JUSTICE CLINTWOOD, VA- Clarita”Rita” Edna Justice, 62, passed away Wednesday October 22, 2014 in the comfort of her home. Clarita was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She enjoyed cooking, watching Days of Our Lives and Wheel of Fortune, reading her Bible and decorating for Christmas. But her biggest joy was spending time with her family and having her schnauzer, Carli by her side. Clarita was preceded in death by her husbands, Ted Justice and Carl Mullins both of Clintwood, VA; her parents Clarida and Velma ( Nunley ) Senter and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include her sons, Wade Justice and wife Mistie – Clintwood, VA, John Mullins and wife Gena- Clintwood, VA; daughters, Peggy Mullins- Wise, VA and Lisa Erazo and husband German - Springdale, AR; a step-son, Ricky Mullins- Clintwood, VA ; a twin brother, Clarida Senter Jr.- McClure, VA; seven grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn her passing and cherish her memory. NANCY LOUISE HUTCHISON POUND,VA- Nancy Louise Hutchison, 55, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday October 9, 2014 from the Holston Valley Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Nancy was a Christian and attended several Old Regular Baptist churches. She was affectionately known to many people as “Miss Nancy” having served for 23 years as a librarian for Wise County Public Library and overseeing the Story Time Program for the pre-school children. Nancy loved her precious time she spent with her own grandchildren which she loved so dearly. She enjoyed traveling, especially trips with her family and friends. Nancy was an avid reader of all types of material. She was a courageous fighter, with the patience of Jobe, always cheerful and a beautiful smile, She had a kind word or compliment for everyone. FRONA ANN MOORE NEON, KY- Frona Ann Moore, 58, entered into eternity Thursday October 9, 2014 from the Hazard Hospice Care Center- Hazard, KY. After a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Frona was ofv the Christian faith and a member of the Millstone Missionary Baptist Church. She also enjoyed cooking, holiday family dinners, trips to Food City, spending time with her children and grandchildren and going to church. Frona was a busy bee, always doing something for either her family or friends. Frona was preceded in death by her parents, Saul and Easter Imogene(Williams) Johnson. DEBORAH ELIZABETH WORKMAN BOLLING NORTON, VA- Deborah Elizabeth Workman Bolling, 53, passed away from her residence in Norton, VA on Wednesday October 8, 2014 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Deborah was of the Baptist faith. She was a graduate of J.I. Burton High School, Mountain Empire Community College and Virginia Intermont College. She was a former employee Wallen Ridge Prison in Big Stone Gap, VA and United States Central Intelligent Agency. Deborah enjoyed traveling, especially overseas, going to church and playing the piano and reading. Deborah was best known for her loving heart and willingness to help others that were in need. Deborah was preceded in death by a nephew, Blake Young. RICHARD BOGGS EOLIA, KY- Richard “ Stork” Boggs, 55, entered into eternity Friday October 3, 2014 from his home on Roberts Branch, Eolia, KY after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Richard was a Christian and an Elder of the Millstone Primitive Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Richard enjoyed being in church, time he spent with his family, hunting, fishing and gardening. Richard loved being a coal miner and was very proud of it. If you asked him what the three most important things in life were, his answer would be…God first, a loving wife second and you could pick the third. Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Janet (Adams) Boggs; his parents, Ethrie (Esser) and Virgie Parson Boggs; a grandson, Levi Brock; brothers, Delmar Boggs, Elmer Boggs and James Boggs. Alex was of the Baptist faith, believing in the Lord. He was a generous person, always giving to others, especially his family and friends. Alex was an avid computer programmer and loved video games. He also enjoyed reading and loved music. Alex was a former co-captain of a charter boat. RANDY ALLAN DINGUS POUND, VA – Randy Allan Dingus, 54, passed away Monday September 29, 2014 at the Holston Valley Regional Medical Center, Kingsport, TN. Randy was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served for 8 years. Randy enjoyed the outdoors , camping, hunting and fishing. He also love spending time four wheeling and hanging out with his buddies and going to ball games, but his most precious memories was the time he had with his granddaughter Sissy. He was loving son, brother, uncle and friend. Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mary Ann Dingus; and two brothers, David Dingus and Ricky Dingus. MORLENE SERGEANT POUND, VA – Morlene Sergeant, 80, entered into her Heavenly Home Saturday September 27, 2014 from the Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport TN after an extended illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Morlene was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Glady Fork Freewill Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Morlene also enjoyed going to church, singing gospel songs, talking on the phone, camping and fishing, canning and perserving and cooking meals for her family. Morlene was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, James Sergeant; two sons, James Sergeant Jr. and Jerry Sergeant; her parents, Clarence and Bessie (Wells) Robinette; three sisters, Zefa Kilgore, Nelda Gaye Robinette and Irene Short; and two brothers, Woodrow Robinette and Milburn Robinette. CARRIE BELLE DEAN COEBURN, VA- Carrie Belle Dean,84, of Heritage Hall in Wise VA, passed away peacefully to return to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday September 23, 2014 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Carrie was born on December 6, 1929 in Coeburn, VA to her late parents, Marvin and Rosie Richardson. She retired from Heritage Hall in Wise after 24 years of loyal and devoted service. In that time she had won Employee of the Year and many other awards. Carrie loved reading her Bible, cooking and working. She also enjoyed watching and caring for her birds. Carrie was preceded in death by parents, Marvin and Rosie ( Kennedy)Richardson; 3 sisters, Delphia Hatcher, Evelyn Richardson and Joann Richardson; 2 grandchildren, Barbara Sue Bentley and Gretta Baldwin; a brother- in- law, Ralph Mullins and sister-in-law, Louise Bloomer Richardson. Carrie was blessed with a large family and loving family. LOIS MULLINS POUND, VA- Lois Mullins, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior September 22, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving family. Lois was a Christian and attended West End Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap, VA. She worked has a Caregiver until she was 84 years old. As Lois got unable to care for other she enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the different birds and people go by. Lois loved her Lord and reading her Bible. She enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren family and friends. Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Taylor Mullins; her parents, Willard and Bertha (Mullins) Taylor; sisters, Leota Cantrell, Ona Short; brothers, James Taylor, Don Taylor and Bud Stallard and a grandson, Dwayne Dotson. MITCHELL DEAN CHESTER POUND, VA- Mitchell Dean Chester, 60, passed away Saturday September 20, 2014 due to injuries suffered in a four wheeler accident. Mitchell was a retired coal miner with 20 years of experience and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was an avid outdoorsman and gun enthusiast and a long time member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fishing, four wheeling, Indian artifacts and rock collecting. He was also a die hard Pound Wildcat , Tennessee Vol and Washington Redskin fan. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson Chester on May 30, 2012 and Wanda (Edwards) Chester on September 10, 2012. EDGAR MULLINS POUND, VA – Mr. Edgar Mullins, 92, passed away Thursday September 18, 2014 at the Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Norton, VA. Edgar was born March 10, 1922 in the Bold Camp section of Pound, VA, where he was a lifelong resident. In the late 1930s he worked for the NYA which was part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal. In 1941, Edgar began working for Consolidation Coal Company, Jenkins, KY as a coal loader. When he retired in 1984, he was working as an electrical repairman at the Jenkins Prep Plant, Dunham, KY for Beth-Elkhorn Corporation, a division of Bethlehem Steel. He worked a total of 38 years at the Jenkins Plant. Mr. Mullins was a devoted United Mine Worker Of America member of local Union 5741, Burdine, KY for 70 years. Edgar was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II and a long time member of the Pound VFW Post 9600. He was a member of the 1ST Infantry Division and participated in the Sicilian and Normandy (D-Day) invasions during the war. He was an artilleryman and his unit landed at Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944. Mr. Mullins was a devoted member of the Democratic Party. He served on the Wise County Board of Supervisors for 24 years from 1976 until 2003. In the early 1970s he was also a member of the Wise County Housing and Redevelopment Authority Board. While on the Board of Supervisors, Mr. Mullins served one term as vice chairman and was also a member of the Wise County Social Services Board and the Coal Severance Tax Road Committee. He was a dedicated representative for the citizens of Gladeville-Roberson/District 1. Roads were his passion and he took pride in the fact that all the secondary roads in Wise County were trans- formed from gravel to paved during his tenure in the Board. Edgar was a 60 year member of the Pound Masonic Lodge #56 AF & AM and was a Shriner with the Wise County Shrine Club. He was also an active member of the Cumberland Fur, Fish and Game Association and was an avid coon hunter all his life. Edgar was a follower of the Fairview Old Regular Baptist Church. Mr. Mullins was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Gracie Cantrell Mullins; parents, Alamander and Della Mullins; five sisters, Versie Cantrell, Flossie Mullins, Lola Kennedy, Lena Stallard and Brenda Mullins; and four brothers, Woodrow Mullins, Ermine Mullins, Thurman Mullins, and Ray Mullins. Survivors include his son Larry Neil Mullins and wife Wanda ; his beloved granddaughter, Holly Elizabeth Tucker and husband Andrew ; and great-granddaughter Gracie Dru Tucker all of Pound.Other survivors include four brothers, Trinkle and Clarence Mullins of Pound, Hubert Mullins of Coeburn and Dempsie Mullins of Wise; several nieces and nephews; two special caregivers, Sharon Hubbard of Pound and Beth Ellis of Big Stone Gap; and a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Sunday September 21, 2014 in the Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel with Elder Willie Cantrell officiating. EDDIE LON SHORTT POUND, VA- Eddie Lon Shortt, 82, entered into eternity Tuesday September 16, 2014 from her residence after a long illness. Her loving family was by her side. Eddie Lon was a Christian of the Baptist faith. She worked several years in the cafeteria at J.W. Adams Combined School and as secretary for H&R Block and Dr. Miranda She was a loving wife, mother, grand- mother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. Being with her family was her greatest joy. RUFUS MILTON STRANGE, JR. WISE, VA – Rufus “Bug” Strange, Jr., 64, entered in to eternity Saturday September 6, 2014from his residence. He was surrounded by his loving family. Rufus was a Christian, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam Era and was awarded a Purple Heart. Bug was a retired miner with over 30 years of experience as a both a surface miner and an underground miner. He had worked for A&G Coal, Barnette Enterprises, Glass Machinery and others in the coal industry. Bug loved to hunt and fish, ride four wheelers, he was a former little league baseball coach and cherished the time he had with his grandchildren. Rufus was preceded in death by his mother, Virgie Strange. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Peggy loved to draw and color, write notes, sing, read her Bible and listen to preaching. MSgt CHESTER COLLIER- BYRON, GA- Retired Master Sergeant Chester “Check” Collier, 71, went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2014. MSgt Collier was a Christian of the Baptist faith. He retired from the United States Air Force after serving his country for 26 years then worked for 14 years as a civil service employee at Robins Air Force Base working on C-5 transport planes. Chester enjoyed working on all types of engines, restoring old cars and working with his honey bees, but what gave him his greatest joy was spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. Chester was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Mary (Raleigh) Collier and three brothers, Arnold Collier, Millard Collier and Monroe Collier. PEARL HOPKINS COUNTISS POUND, VA – Mrs. Pearl Hopkins Countiss, 104, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 7, 2014. Mrs. Countiss was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Mt. Zion Old Regular Baptist for approximately 50 years. She was a homemaker and a former clerk in her family’s general store. She loved to reminisce about the store and the customers and about growing up in Hopkins Holler. Pearl always put her family first, then the people in her neighborhood. She loved to cook, her specialty was butterscotch pie. Mrs. Countiss was preceded in death by husband, Millard L. Countiss; her parents, Nelson and Laura (Sowards) Hopkins; a daughter, Barbara Stidham;three sons, Foyster L. Countiss, James L. JESSICA ELISE McARTHUR CLARK WISE, VA – Jessica Elise McArthur Clark, 28, entered into eternity Saturday, January 21, 2012. Jessica was a 2001 honor graduate of J. J. Kelly High School, Wise, Virginia, where she was a member of the track team and the varsity cheerleaders. She was of the Christian faith and was baptized at the Wise Church of God. She attended UVA-Wise and was currently enrolled in the Funeral Service Program at Mountain Empire Community College. She was Office Manager and Funeral Service Apprentice at her family’s business, Baker Funeral Home, Pound, VA. Jessica loved her family dearly, especially her brother, Alex. She loved animals all her life and had two special Yorkies, Maggie and Makiah. Jessica had a kind spirit, had friends of all ages, and tried to help everyone in any way she possibly could.
