GINGER LEIGH CANTRELL COLLIER POUND, VA- Ginger Leigh Cantrell Collier, 49, entered into Heaven Wednesday July 23, 2014 from Holston Valley Medical Center-Kingsport, TN after a long extended illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Ginger was a Christian and a member of the Lone Pine Chapel Church in Pound, VA. She enjoyed fishing, camping , cooking for her family, listening to and singing county music and spending as much time as she could with her dear nieces and nephews. Her Mom and Dad provided her the best care possible, even during some difficult circumstances. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her parents, David (Hog Lot) and Billie Jean (Short) Cantrell-Pound, VA; sisters, Melissa (Missy) Freeman and husband James- Pound, VA, Nancy Short and husband David- Spout Springs, VA and Mary Beth Mayes and husband Rusty- Spout Springs, VA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn her passing and cherish her memory. Memorial services will be conducted at 7:00pm Saturday July 26, 2014 at the Lone Pine Chapel Church with Reverend James Bolling officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm until time of services. It was Ginger’s wishes that she be cremated and her ashes spread at Bug’s Island, her favorite fishing spot. RUSTY PEAKS POUND, VA – Rusty Peaks, 49, entered into eternity Monday July 14, 2104 from his residence, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Rusty was of the Christian faith, he loved his family, especially his best friend, his Dad. He loved life and enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed shooting pool, playing cards, bingo, playing the lottery, fighting chickens and listening to music, especially AC/DC. Rusty worked for several years as a nurse at Heritage Hall in Wise, VA He was preceded in death by his mother, Artie Mae Davis Peaks; his step-mother, Trennia Peaks and his grandparents, Orville and Nellie Peaks. DONNIE G. FALIN POUND, VA – Donnie G. Falin, 62, entered into eternity Tuesday July 8, 2014 from his residence, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Donnie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a Christian and a veteran of the United States Army, also a former waste water treatment facility site manager for 21 years for the town of Pound and Veolia. Donnie was also a former police officer for the town of Pound and a D J for WIFX . He loved to play music and spend time with his granddaughters. He also loved his dogs, enjoyed camping and was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves, the San Francisco 49ers and the Virginia Tech Hokies and was also an avid history buff. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie W. (Squirt) Falin and Ruby Fleenor and a niece, Michelle Partin Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Clella (Rife) Falin; his son, Leslie Falin and wife Haley-Pound, VA; granddaughters, Abigail and Skylar Falin; sister, Diana Falin Deutsch-St. Barths Island and Ellicott, MD; step-sister Lynn Falin-Coeburn, VA; brothers, James M. FAY ETTA KEITH WISE, VA - Fay Etta Keith, 69 , went home to be with the Lord Sunday June 22, 2014 from the Holston Valley Medical Center-Kingsport, TN after an extended illness. Her loving family was by her side. Fay Etta was a Christian and a member of the Duncan Gap Freewill Baptist Church. She was born June 15, 1945 in Wise, VA to the late Lloyd Lincoln and Jetty Jearline Mullins. She grew up in Wise, Married Fredrick Keith and moved to Manassas, VA where she opened and ran a ceramic shop. They raised their three grateful children there. After retirement they moved back to Wise, VA and Fay Etta became a member of her church. Fay was a wonderful wife, a loving mother and a great sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all that knew her. In addition to her parents her parents, Fay Etta was preceded in death by a sister, Magdaline Mullins of Wise; and brothers, Tracy Mullins of Pound and Roy Mullins of Castlewood Survivors include her husband, Fredrick Keith-Wise, VA; daughters, Penny Short and husband Wayne -Wise, VA and Glenda Hartsock and husband Michael-Wise, VA; a son, Newton Keith and wife Rebecca-Bristol, VA; 13 grandchildren; 3 great- Grandchildren; a brother, Lacy Mullins and wife Diana-Wise, VA; sisters-in-law, Angie Mullins-Pound, VA and Virginia Faye Mullin-Wise, VA; several nieces, Nephews and cousins and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn her passing and cherish her memory. JULIA RUTH SPARKS POUND, VA- Julia Ruth Sparks, “Granny Ruth”, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday June 21, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving family. Granny Ruth was of the Christian faith and was lifelong homemaker. She worked several years at the Pound Drug Store. She enjoyed raising a garden, camping, doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, sewing, and loved cooking for her family and friends. She also loved her three cats, Sam, Buttercup and Sweetie. Granny Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all that loved her. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Roscoe and Ella (Miller) Pritchard; her first husband Wade Sturgill; her second husband, Robert Roy Sparks; her sons, Alan Sturgill and Jerry Pritchard; a daughter, Donna Jean Sturgill Revis; sisters, Edna Carswell, Betty Honaker and Louise Hall; and her brothers, Claude Pritchard and Ramus “Rom” Pritchard. WORLEY RICHARD “RICKY”ADAMS EOLIA, KY- Worley Richard “Ricky” Adams, 56, passed away Friday June 13, 2014 from the Whitesburg ARH in Whitesburg, KY after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Ricky was a Christian of the Primitive Baptist faith. He was a retired coalminer with 20 plus years of experience. Ricky enjoyed fishing, gardening, raising chickens, sewing and quilting. He also loved a good dip of Skoal and weiner roasts, but what he loved the most was the special times he spent with his family and riding his grandchildren on the lawn mower. Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Bobby J. Adams. Survivors include his wife devoted of 37 years, Cindy Lynette Adams- Eolia, KY; his mother, Ruby (Hampton) Adams- Eolia, KY; daughters, Cindy Jackson and husband Jamie- Norton, VA and Valerie Teters and husband Nathan- Coeburn, VA;a son, Worley J. MILDRED COLLINS SUFFOLK, VA.- Mildred Sowards Collins,89, was called to her heavenly home on June 4, 2014 from Autumn Care in Suffolk, VA. after a long, and difficult battle with Alzheimer’s. Mildred spent the majority of her life as a resident of Wise County, but due to her illness she lived the last years with her loving daughter Greta and her son- in- law Bill Baker. Her life reflected her love for Jesus in all she did. She faithfully attended Hamilton Chapel and the Church of God of Prophecy both located on Mill Creek in Pound, VA. With a joyful heart she always was ready to help anyone who had a need. Mildred was also the very best prayer warrior and was always making petitions before God’s throne for all of her Christian brothers and sisters, family and friends. She will be greatly missed, but our loss is Heaven’s gain. In death, Mildred will join her beloved husband Wint with whom she spent 56 delightful years with; her infant son; her parents, William and Rausie Sowards; her brothers, William Gene Sowards, Bruce Sowards, Leonard Sowards and Denver Osborne. ARNOLD CANTRELL POUND, VA – Arnold “Wahoo” Cantrell, 77, entered into eternity Tuesday June 17, 2014 from Wise Heritage Hall after an extended illness. Arnold was a loving and devoted husband, brother and friend. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith Arnold worked in the mines for several years until he was injured and then went to barber school. He was a barber in Pound for over 50 years. There were always plenty of good stories and jokes told at the barber shop. Arnold enjoyed fox hunting and loved base- ball, especially the Boston Red Sox. He was preceded in death by his parents, Early and Veatrice (Robinson) Cantrell; a sister, Connie Akers; and a brother, Jack Cantrell. AUSTIN DRAKE DOTSON POUND, VA- Austin Drake “Add” Dotson, 12, passed away Tuesday June 3, 2014 from the Holston Valley Medical Center due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was surrounded by his loving family. Austin was a fifth grade student at the J.W. Adams Combined School in Pound, VA. He participated in lots of school activities, played football, rode dirt bikes, enjoyed camping and fishing and working on cars with his Daddy. He loved to aggravate his brother Owen and his sister Hope But his passion was baseball, he was a member of the all-star team and remarkably at the age of twelve he could throw a curve ball at 62 mph. He loved his little brother, his little sister, his parents, his aunts, uncles and cousins and all his friends and family. Austin is survived by his father Josh Dotson and his fiancé, Christy Harris; his mother, Heather (Hollyfield) Dotson and her companion, Wesley Stanley; his brother Owen Dale Dotson; his sisters, Isabelle Hope Dotson and Allison Brickley; an unborn brother or sister due in January 0f 2015; maternal grandparents, Mickey and Robin Holleyfield; paternal grandparents, Dale Dotson and Janie Hamilton and Sondra Mullins; paternal great-grandparents, Eleanor and Frank Dotson; uncles, Mickey Hollyfield, Jr. and Jason Hollyfield; sissy, Christan Ventro; aunt Stacy Mullins; cousins, Morgan, Makinzi, Kelan, Braxton and Karly; his classmates; his teammates; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory. JESSICA ELISE McARTHUR CLARK WISE, VA – Jessica Elise McArthur Clark, 28, entered into eternity Saturday, January 21, 2012. Jessica was a 2001 honor graduate of J. J. Kelly High School, Wise, Virginia, where she was a member of the track team and the varsity cheerleaders. She was of the Christian faith and was baptized at the Wise Church of God. She attended UVA-Wise and was currently enrolled in the Funeral Service Program at Mountain Empire Community College. She was Office Manager and Funeral Service Apprentice at her family’s business, Baker Funeral Home, Pound, VA. Jessica loved her family dearly, especially her brother, Alex. She loved animals all her life and had two special Yorkies, Maggie and Makiah. Jessica had a kind spirit, had friends of all ages, and tried to help everyone in any way she possibly could. Jessica was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Harold Ray McArthur, and her maternal grandparents, Jesse “Sambo” and Dorothy Jane Bright.
