ELOISE JESSEE POUND, VA - Eloise Jessee, 75, peacefully entered into her eternal reward Thursday January 18, 2018 from Norton Community Hospital. Her loving family was at her bedside. Eloise was a Christian of the Baptist faith she attended Indian Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Eloise She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Eloise was a dental assistant for many years and a jailer with the Wise County Sheriff Department for 15+ years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, working in in her flower garden. She loved her job as a jailer and her Wise County Sheriff Department family. Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Iva (Back) Hampton and her sister, Charlene Balyeat. Survivors include her daughters, Tonya Hutchison and husband Jessie-Pound, VA and Robin Branham and fiancé Jeff Cantrell-Coeburn, VA; grandchildren, Danielle Hutchison, Karrot Hutchison and Addy Hutchison; sister Emily Mullins and husband George-Pound, VA; brother Edison Holcomb and wife Linda-Pound, VA; brother-in-law Cliff Balyeat-Albion, IN; special nieces Kitty Wyatt and husband Randy-Pound, VA and Vickie Potts and husband Jeff-Indiana; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones to cherish her memory and mourn her passing. JUDITH HAYNES WISE, VA- Judith Haynes, 77, entered into eternity Tuesday January 16, 2018 from the Mountain View Regional Hospital- Norton, VA. She was surrounded by her loving family. Judith was of the Baptist faith and attended Beverly Hills Tabernacle Church and Bull Run Baptist Church. She was a loving mom, nanna, great-nanna; sister, sister-in-law, aunt, mother-in-law and friend. She enjoyed reading her Bible daily, family gatherings, listening to gospel and country music, watching Charles Stanley every Sunday and Wheel of Fortune every evening. Judith was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Haynes ; daughters, Tammy Mullins and Tina Haynes ; a granddaughter, Callie Tina Marie Mullins ; her parents, Francis and Nona (Elkins) Justice; sisters, Mary Sheppard and Eloise Adkins; a brother, Roger Justice. JESSIE LEE SMITH WISE, VA- Jessie Lee Smith, 81, entered into eternity Tuesday January 16, 2018 from his home. His loving family was by his side. Jessie was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Josephine Community Church. He worked as a surface miner for 12 years and a deep miner for 20 years. He also worked for logging and doing construction. He was basically a Jack-of –all- trades. Jessie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and gardening. Jessie got great pleasure cooking and feeding everyone around him. Above all, his greatest joy was the love he had for his family and the time he spent with them. Jessie was preceded in death by his parents, Vickers Allen and Virgie Ellen (Sykes) Smith; an infant daughter, Virgie Alice Smith; a son, Jeffrey Smith; a granddaughter, Laura Drake; a great grandson, Arden Isaiah Smith; sisters, Irene Whisenhunt, Louise Vernon and Evelyn Mullins. GRANT TYLER STANLEY WISE, VA – Grant Tyler Stanley, 34, passed away Saturday December 30, 2017 from his home as a result of complications from diabetes. Grant was born April 5, 1983 and was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving, caring and devoted father to the love of his life, his daughter, Shelby. Grant was a talented photographer and musician, he always had a smile on his face and tried to make everyone one smile too. Grant was a 2001 graduate of Pound High School and ITT Technical Institute in Lake Mary, FL in 2003. He operated Grant Stanley Photography. Grant was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Benjamin Bruce and Beulah Osborne and his paternal grandparents James Stanley and Ruble Stanley Hill. Survivors include his precious daughter, Shelby Aliza Stanley of the home; his parents, Danny and Agnes Stanley-Pound, VA and many family members and special friends. He will be truly missed by all that knew him. REVEREND ULIS STURGILL POUND, VA – Reverend Ulis Sturgill, 84,entered into his eternal reward Tuesday December 26, 2017from the Pikeville Medical Center. He was surrounded by his loving family as he peacefully finished his journey home. Reverend Sturgill was a devoted Christian, he kept his unwavering faith. Although his physical condition prevented him from attending church regularly in his last years, his belief remained untarnished. He had attended and ministered in several churches and was a lifetime member of the Glady Fork Freewill Baptist Church. Ulis loved his Bible and his family. He was a retired coal miner (electrician) with over 30 years of experience. He was a Mr. Fix- it, tinkering with almost anything. Ulis enjoyed fishing and wood- working,. He especially enjoyed gardening, from plowing the ground to canning and preserving his crops. He always shared his harvest with family and friends. Ulis was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Lee and Alice (Rutherford) Sturgill; a great-grandson, Jayden Sutherland; sisters, Julie Cantrell, Fannie Cantrell, Betty Maggard, and Joyce Taylor; and a brother, Clyde Sturgill. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 61 years, Ramona(Mullins) Sturgill; his daughters, Amy Sturgill-Pound, VA; Jean Robinson and husband Michael (Cotton)-Pound, VA; Patsy Hamilton and husband Benji-Pound, VA, Elizabeth Sturgill-Partridge, KY; his sons, Kelly Sturgill and wife Stacy-Wise, VA; Ricky Sturgill-Pound, VA; Stevie Sturgill-Pound, VA; Jimmy Sturgill-Eolia, KY; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren (with one on the way in July 2018); sisters, Nancy Taylor and husband Coy-Pound, VA, Katie Maggard and husband Wayne- Rutledge, TN and Annie Blizzard-Pound, VA; brothers, Roger Sturgill and wife Teresa-Pound, VA and Kenneth Sturgill and wife Gail-Pound, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory. JEFFREY DEAN BRICKEY NORTON, VA- Jeffrey D. Brickey, 49, passed away unexpectedly Thursday December 14, 2017 at the Mountain View Regional Medical Center. Jeff was of the Freewill Baptist faith. He was a loving husband, son, brother and friend. Jeff worked for several years as a water technician .Jeff was a prankster and loved to make people laugh. He had and outgoing personality and was friendly to everyone. He was a true and faithful friend Jeff had a loved for music and playing the guitar having a large collection of his own. His favorite musician was Stevie Ray Vaughn. Jeff had had a wide variety of pets during his life, presently two german sheppards, Sammy and Stevie Ray. Jeff is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Willie and Vona Brickey; his maternal grandparents, James and Flora Wireman and his father-in-law Wiley Bevins. GRACIE C. DINGUS WISE, VA – Mrs. Gracie C. Dingus, 74, left this world to be present with the Lord on Sunday December 3, 2017 from her daughter’s home after an extended illness. She passed peacefully with her family and friends gathered around her. Gracie was a Christian of the Baptist faith. She attended the Worldwide Church of God. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and enjoyed reading her Bible , watching Living Faith television and listening to gospel music. Gracie was an avid reader all her life, she belonged to many book clubs. She loved simple things like going on picnics, wading in the creek, painting rocks and just being silly. She loved flowers, especially roses, she enjoyed working in the garden, quilting and sewing. Gracie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She was the last of 12 children. Gracie was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton (Kenny) Dingus, her parents, Clark and Suzie (Salyers) Smith; and eleven brothers and sisters. SEPTEMBER CAROLINE COX WISE, VA – Miss September Caroline Cox, 36, entered gracefully into eternity Tuesday November 21, 2017 from her residence. Her loving family was at her bedside. September had fought a long and courageous battle with Crohn’s Disease for over 16 years. September was born September 18, 1981, she was a Christian of the Baptist faith and was truly grateful for all the blessings in her life. She was a graduate of Pound High School in 2000 where she was very popular. A teacher said “September was the girl all the boys wanted to date and all the girls wanted to be like.” She was a former retail clerk and loved to cook. She enjoyed all types of music and watching the food network. September had a deep love and appreciation for her body art, she was able to express herself through her many beautiful tattoos. The month of September will forever have a purple ribbon running through it. September was a beautiful daughter sister and friend. ROGER (PENCIL) E. HUGHES HARRIMAN, TN- Roger (Pencil) E. Hughes, age 62 of Harriman, Tennessee, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday November 11, 2017. Roger was born in Clintwood, VA, August 5, 1955. Roger was raised in Pound, VA he found employment as a truck driver. Years later Roger relocated to the state of Tennessee finally settling in Harriman where he found employment working as a handyman to include landscape maintenance and construction remodeling. Roger was preceded in death by his life companion of 32 years Barbara Ellen Bowling in March 2017. Roger was also preceded in death by his parents, Arnold Burns Hughes and Olive (Stratton) Hughes and two brothers and three sisters. Roger was the youngest of ten children including a half brother. He is survived by four siblings, three brothers Bud Hughes-Merriam, Kansas, Marshall Hughes and wife Francis-Clintwood, VA Calvin Hughes- Brooksville, Florida, one sister Freda Coleman -Lorton VA Survivors include Son Daniel Eric Hughes and wife Rhonda-Front Royal, VA, Daughter Chasity Tenille Withrow and husband Patrick-Fredericksburg VA. And Daughter of lifelong companion Marnie Bowling Hughes-Roane, TN; 4 grandchildren Dalton Viers, Daniel Hughes, Logan Withrow and Marissa Withrow as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. GUY EARNEST CHESTER WISE, VA- Guy Earnest Chester, 85, entered peacefully into eternity Thursday November 10, 2017 from Heritage Hall-Wise. Guys’s family was by his bedside. Guy was Christian and a member of the Stevens Church of God for 47+ years. He was a retired coal miner with over 40 years of experience and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Guy was always busy helping others, he volunteered regularly at his church before he physically unable to do so. Guy loved attending church, and visiting with family and friends. He was well known for his Life Saver Peppermint candy. Guy was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 55 years, Naomi Ruth Chester; his son, Sammy Chester, his daughters, Kathy Chester and Connie Krebs, a granddaughter, Melissa Krebs; his parents, Joel Lankston and Ruby Ellen (Meade) Chester; a sister, Marie Mullins; brothers, Emerson Chester, Avis Chester and Houston Chester.
