EDMOND TRENT MULLINS POUND, VA - Edmond Trent Mullins, 85, entered peacefully into his eternal reward Tuesday June 20, 2017 from the Holston Valley Medical Center. He was surrounded by his loving family. Trent was a Christian, strong in his faith and loved the Lord. He was a long time member and deacon and former Sunday School superintendent at Pyles Memorial Freewill Baptist Church in Pound, VA. Trent was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of United Mine Workers of America having retired with over 40 years of experience in the mines.. He was well known there as “Roho”. Trent enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and was known as being the “ Nintendo Champ”. He treasured his time with his family and going to church. His wife Wilma was the love of his life. Trent was preceded in death by his parents, Merida and Bessie (Cantrell) Mullins; an infant son Scotty Van Mullins, a sister, Rebal Boggs; and a brother Coy Mullins, Jr. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Wilma (Dotson) Mullins-Pound, VA; his daughter, Vicky Phillips and husband Thea-Wise, VA; his son, Robbie Mullins and wife Missy-Pound, VA; his grandchildren, Nakisha Robinson and husband Michael-Clintwood, VA; Haley King and husband Matt – Big Stone Gap, VA; and Robbie Mullins, JR.-Pound ,VA; Great-grandchildren, T W Robinson, Nick Robinson, Zoie King and Karsen King; sisters, Sue Cantrell-Pound, VA and Betty Gardner and husband Richard-Norton, VA; brothers, Benny Mullins and wife Jewel-Pound, VA and Ernest Ray Mullins and wife Carol-Jonesville, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his church family; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Thursday June 22, 2017 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Carter officiating. PATRICIA LYNN KILGORE WISE, VA – Patricia Lynn (Patty Cake) Kilgore, 40, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday June 5, 2017 from the Johnson City Medical Center. Her loving parents and sister were by her side. God let Patty fly away to be with her Lord and her brother Jeff. She was a special child of God and a blessing to her entire family. Patty had an enormous heart and loved everyone. She had the innocence of a child and loved playing jokes on her family and friends. She loved watching Golden Girls and playing cards. Patty was known by her family and friends as Patty Cake and NaNa. She was her Daddy’s Baby Girl, she waited every day for him to get home from work. The two of them went out regularly on “dates”, riding together for hours listening to bluegrass and gospel music. Patty Cake was the light of her Mommy’s life, caring for her was a privilege and a gift from God for the last forty and a half years. Patty was preceded in death by her brother, Jeffrey Allen Kilgore; her paternal grandparents, Laymon and Elva (Mullins) Kilgore; her maternal grandparents Gordon and Versie (Collins) Bullion; her uncles, Billy, Coy and Gary Kilgore; and her aunt Madeline Strouth. JAMIE DOTSON POUND, VA – Jamie Dotson, 48, entered into eternity Saturday June 3, 2017 from the Carilion Memorial Hospital-Roanoke, VA. His loving family was at his bedside. Jamie was a Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a natural athlete, and was very good at any sport he participated in, especially football and baseball, which he played for Pound High School and Limestone College in Spartanburg, S.C. Later he enjoyed coaching his sons and others kids in the area. He coached little league and junior league baseball and peanut football. He loved everybody’s kids like he did his own. He was extremely proud of his sons. Jamie enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time at the lake with his family and friends. Jamie was a former heavy equipment operator and was also a former owner of Saba Market in Pound. Jamie had a very outgoing personality and was quick to make friends. He had a big smile and a kind heart. Jamie was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Dotson: his paternal grandparents, Bascom and Gertrude (Gibson) Dotson; and his maternal grand parents, Everett and Leota (Stallard) Cantrell. BENNY LEE BOGGS POUND, VA – Benny Lee Boggs, 77, passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, on May 25, 2017 after a short term illness, although he had not been in the best of health for many months. Benny was preceded on death by his father, Arvil Boggs, and his mother Ellie Cantrell Boggs. He is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Greta Banks Boggs; and his son Andrew Benjamin Boggs of Pound, VA. Benny attended Clinch Valley College and later graduated from Tennessee Technological University with a BS and a MS degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority in various capacities related to his formal education. He later worked for the United States Department of Energy in Washington, DC and in Los Alamos, NM. He concluded his career with a position at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC. After his retirement, Benny and his family returned to Pound to live in the house where he grew up, and where he resided until his passing. One of Benny’s proudest achievements was his military service. He served three and a half years in the United States Air Force at the Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, ME. Benny was a strong supporter of the United States military, and a true patriot. He was also a member of the Pound Masonic Lodge #57 AF &AM. Benny was fun loving and inquisitive his entire life. He was always interested in how and why things worked. He loved to laugh and enjoyed practical joke. He had an insatiable desire to learn about almost anything, and became particularly interested in political and geo political issues. He loved a good discussion and was well versed in a wide range of issues. Benny loved his family and was so proud if his wife, Greta and his son, Andy. That was abundantly clear to anyone who was around him for even a few minutes. He was Christian and loved his Lord. He would gladly engage in an evangelical discussion at any moment. He was member of the First Baptist Church of Pound. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Holston Valley Hospital and members of the Pound Rescue Squad. Masonic funeral rites will be conducted at 7:00 pm Sunday May 28, 2017 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel by the Pound Masonic Lodge #59 with funeral services to follow. Pastor Tommy Shell will lead the celebration of Benny’s life. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until time of services. BERT MONROE BRYANT WISE, VA – Bert Monroe Bryant 52, passed away unexpectedly Saturday May 20, 2017at his nieces home in Wise, VA. Bert was lived a simple life, he enjoyed spending time his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nannie ( Phillips) Bryant, his sisters, Nyoka Phillips, Leona Bryant and Novella Sue Adams; and his brother, Elijah. Survivors include his brothers, Johnny Bryant-Norton, VA, Billy Bryant-Norton, VA and Marvin Bryant-California; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones. As per Bert’s wishes, he was an organ and tissue donor and his remains were cremated. A private burial will be held at a later date. ELSIE MAE RYAN CROMONA, KY – Mrs. Elsie Mae Ryan , 86, entered peacefully into her eternal reward Monday May 8, 2017 from the Whitesburg ARH. Her family was at her bedside. Elsie was a Christian of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was a former sales clerk for many department stores and homemaker nearly all of her life. Elsie enjoyed shopping and was an avid bargain hunter. She loved old rock and roll, especially Elvis and Chuck Berry, and enjoyed TV, particularly the older shows. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Blaine and Bertha Taylor; her first husband, Leonard Moore; her second husband, Thomas Ryan; her sisters, Viola Henderson and Effie Taylor; and her brothers, Billy Ray, Clarence, Ottis, James, Lonnie Darrell, Blaine, Donnie, Bernard and Bobby Joe Taylor. WILMA LEA MULLINS POUND, VA- Wilma Lea Mullins, 53, entered into eternity Wednesday May 3, 2017 from Indian Path Hospital-Kingsport, TN. Her loving family was at her bedside. Wilma was a Christian of the Freewill Baptist faith and a member of Hubbard Chapel Church–Pound, VA. She loved going to church. Wilma was a loving wife , mother, sister and friend. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren. Wilma loved to cook and to sew and had a vast collection of frogs. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, James and Morlene (Robinette) Sergeant; and two brothers, James Sergeant and Jerry Sergeant. DOLLY MAE BOLLING POUND, VA- Dolly Mae Bolling, 90 died peacefully on Thursday May 4, 2017 from Heritage Hall- Wise, VA. Mae was of the Baptist faith and most of her younger life attended Independent Bible Church (South Fork) Pound, VA and later attended Stevens Regular Baptist Church- Wise, VA Mae was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, sister and friend. Mae was a constant worker, either self-employed or working for others. She was a talented quilt maker and enjoyed cross-stitching. She loved to cook and feed her family, go camping and fishing, going on Sunday after- noon drives. Mae was known as “Big Flea” by her family because of her passion for going to flea markets and yard sales. Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Partha (Bolling) Stidham; her husband Henry Morgan Bolling; her brothers Cicero Stidham, Voyne Stidham, Emory Stidham, Denver Stidham, Claude Stidham and Clyde Stidham; and sisters, Eula Shortt and Vera Stidham Crouse. EMMITT RICHARD HUGHES COEBURN, VA - Emmitt Richard Hughes, 66, passed away Tuesday April 25, 2017 at the Heritage Hall-Wise after an extended illness. His family members were by his side. Richard was of the Baptist faith. He had was a former employee of Lonesome Pine Exterminating and had several other jobs over the years. Richard enjoyed camping, fishing, playing the guitar and a large rock collection he started several years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents, Williams W. and Margaret (Sexton) Hughes. PHYLLIS ANN COLLINS WISE, VA- Phyllis Ann Collins, 70, entered into eternity Tuesday April 25, 2017 from Wellmont Hospice Center- Bristol, TN. Phyllis was a Christian of the Pentecostal faith, she was a former member of Pyles Memorial Church- Pound, VA and a member of Stevens Chapel Church- Wise, VA. She loved going to church and telling everyone about her Lord and Savior, she was a true” Prayer Warrior”. Phyllis had outgoing personality, never meeting a stranger, and enjoyed just sitting outside. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Edward P.Belcher and Gladys Mullins; a sister, Patsy Joan Brock; brothers, Butch Brock, Homer Brock , Jimmy Brock and Floyd Belcher; and her grandmother,Girtie Mullins; her aunt Corina Mullins; and her uncle Eugene Collins. GOLDIE CANTRELL DOTSON WISE, VA- Goldie Cantrell Dotson, 101, departed her earthly Body from her home in Wise on Thursday April 20, 2017. Her devoted grandson David and faithful caregiver Carrie were by her side. Goldie was born the fourth child of twelve to the union of James and Dulcena Stanley Cantrell on September 21, 1915. She blessed this world with her presence for one hundred one years and seven months. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elder John M. Dotson; two infant children; a granddaughter, Laura Ann Dotson; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Dotson; a great-grandson in-law, Josh Robinson; three brothers, Fitzhugh Cantrell, Luther Cantrell and Carson Cantrell; and six sisters, Ruth Dotson, Lula Mullins, Edith Belcher Eva Vanover, Martha Fleming and her closest sister, Oma Mullins. “Mamaw” Goldie is survived by two sons, Billy Ray Dotson and wife Annette of Upper Marlboro, MD and Freddy Dotson and wife Lisa of Wise, VA; her “daughter” Donna (Dotson) Cantrell of Wise, VA; granddaughters, Debbie Yates and husband Ronnie of Clintwood, VA, Kristi Bowie and husband Cliff of Maryland and Cheyenne Cantrell of Wise, VA; her best friend, grandson and faithful caregiver, David Dotson of the home and grandson Dawson Dotson of Wise, VA; special caregiver, Carrie Hughes, in whom we are forever grateful. She is also survived by her sister, Ella Mullins of Wise, VA and her Brother, Fred Cantrell and wife Geneva of Pound, VA. AVIE DAY GRACE ROSE WISE, VA- Avie Day Grace Rose, April 12, 2017- April 18, 2017. Just 6 days after coming into this world Avie Day Grace passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. During her fleeting time, she touched many lives and was loved by all who met her. Born nearly 16 weeks early, Avie fought for every moment she had. She smiled constantly and was able to grip her father’s finger and respond to her mother’s touch during her brief stay here on earth. She now resides in Heaven, where she will smile eternally. Her loving family was at her bedside. Evelyn was of the Baptist faith. For over 50 years she owned and operated several restaurants in the Pound area.. She enjoyed music and was an avid “Elvis” fan, enjoyed watching movies, and loved to read. Evelyn had a big heart and her home always had an open door .She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. But what Evelyn enjoyed the most was the time she spent with her family and friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin G. SHEARLON MULLINS POUND, VA – Shearlon Mullins, 74, peacefully entered into eternity Friday March 31, 2017 from his residence. Shearlon was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving husband, father, poppy, pop-pop, brother, uncle and friend. He cherished his family, especially his grandchildren .He had a very friendly personality and soon became a friend to almost everyone he met. He also loved a good joke or prank. Shearlon was a retired coal miner with nearly 40 years of experience, 30 of those years with Double M Coal. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America and local union 6229. He enjoyed fishing and riding his family on his pontoon, but his greatest joy was the time he spent relaxing with his family. Shearlon was preceded in death by his parents, Gormon and Agnes (Boggs)Mullins Newsom; and a brother, Raleigh Joe Mullins. JoAn literally traveled the world and loved various forms of dancing. JoAn loved God and paid her success forward most recently as a Stephen minister. He was a loving husband, father, son and friend. Nathan lived in Rutledge for the past 10 years where he served on the Grainger County Volunteer Fire Department and before that lived in Eolia, KY. He enjoyed bass fishing, playing basketball, playing his guitar and singing and was an avid UK Wildcats basketball fan, but his four precious daughters were the light of his life and his greatest source of happiness. CHARLES D. ELKINS POUND, VA - Charles Elkins, 59, joined his daddy and mommy in Heaven on Monday March 6, 2017 from the Holston Valley Medical Center with his loving and devoted family at his bedside. Charles was a Christian of the Baptist faith, and was baptized at Caney Creek Freewill Baptist Church, where he attended when he was able. Special thanks to Caney Creek Freewill Baptist Church and their awesome deaf interpreters. He attended Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Staunton, VA during his public education years. He worked with his dad and brother and others in the logging business, and enjoyed the scrap metal “hobby” in his later years. Charles never met a stranger, and knew many people in the area.
