PHYLLIS SUE MULLINS POUND, VA - Mrs. Phyllis Sue Mullins, 84, entered into life eternal Saturday September 17, 2016 from her residence. Her loving family was at her bedside. Phyllis was a Christian and a member of the Pound United Methodist Church. She was a retired bank teller with over 15 years of service at BB&T Bank in Pound and Wise. She was also a former audiology and visual aide with the DILENOWISCO Educational Cooperative and a former member of the Red Hats. Phyllis loved to dance and enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, her favorite song was Wildwood Flower. She enjoyed the fellowship of the Pickin’ in the Pound meetings. She also enjoyed cooking and playing with her dog, Lady. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carlos Mullins; her mother, Mabel Maxwell Mullins Palmer; her father, Zemery Mullins; her step-father, Leonard T. Palmer; and a niece, Martha Gilliam Jones. Survivors include her daughter, Chris Evans and husband Greg Garland- Pound, VA; a son, Stephen Mullins and wife Renee-Virginia; grandchildren, Oliver Mullins, Colin Mullins, Audrey Mullins, Grant Mullins, Marc Garland and Kristen Garland ; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Jackie Gilliam-Pound, VA ; three nephews and a niece; and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn her passing and cherish her memory. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Monday September 19, 2016 in the Baker Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Ken Conner, Reverend Randy Carter and Reverend Carmon Gentry officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday September 20, 2016 at the Bolling Cemetery in the Flat Gap section of Pound, VA. where family members and friends will serve as pallbearers. CAROLYN JEAN CANTRELL POUND, VA – Carolyn “Jeannie” Cantrell, 50, departed this world Friday September 9, 2016 from the Johnson City Medical Center. She was surrounded by her loving family. Jeannie enjoyed spending time at the family campground and adventure center by the river, but her greatest joy was spending time with her kids and grandkids. Jeannie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents Elbert and Frances Lewis, and a brother Martin Lewis. Surviving are her husband Jeff Cantrell; one son, Justin Cantrell; three daughters , Caitlin Cantrell, Mitzi Cantrell and Kristin Day and husband Matt; nine grandchildren, Makaila Freeman, Dusten Freeman, Rileig Day, Emma Day Levi Day, Brenton Cantrell, Trenton Cantrell, Lyndon Boggs and Carly Boggs; four brothers Randy Lewis, Billy Lewis, Bobby Lewis and Tracy Lewis; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and host of other relatives and friends. RICHARD EARL STALLARD POUND, VA- Richard Earl Stallard entered into his eternal reward Sunday September 4, 2016 from the Norton Community Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Earl was a Christian and attended Ferbie Chapel Church in Pound, VA. He retired as a bus driver for the Wise County School System with 30 plus years of service and was also a former security guard. Earl was a 1955 graduate of Pound High School and was captain of the basketball team. He enjoyed going fishing, yardwork, tending to his flower beds and watching detective shows on TV. Earl was a member of the Big Blue Nation and an avid UK Wildcat basketball fan. But his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and his grandchildren. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Goldie (Mullins) Stallard; his sisters, Francis Ratliff and Shirley Jo Stallard; and a brother, Hubert Allen Stallard; Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Norma (Duty) Stallard of the home; his sons, Rick Stallard and wife Kate-Pennsylvania , Randy Stallard Ohio and Robert Stallard-Ohio and Danny William Robinson- Liberty, NC; his daughters, Amy Countiss and husband Steve-Pound, VA and Leslie Crabtree and husband Billy-Pound, VA ;grandchildren; Melissa Stallard, Jessica Stallard and Josh Stallard, Rickey Kelley, Randi Stallard, Robin Stallard, Lynzee Crabtree, Billie Jean Crabtree, Carissa Short and Caleb Crabtree. ; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eunice Dotson-Brook Park, OH, Dorothy Kelly-Kent, OH, Georgia South and husband Don-Independence, MO, Geraldine Hurt and husband Robert-Myrtle Beach, SC and Anna Ruth Boggs-Defiance, OH; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and loved one to mourn his loss and cherish his memory. BEATRICE TOMPKINS POUND, VA – Mrs. Beatrice Tompkins, 74, entered into eternity Tuesday September 6, 2016 from the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Her loving family was at her bedside. Bea was of the Christian faith. She enjoyed cooking and working in her flower gardens, But her most precious moments were the ones spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved to watch her grandkids play sports. Bea was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Bea was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Clohia (Short) Mullins; a granddaughter, Alyssa Renee Tompkins and brothers, Allard Burns Mullins and Farris Mullins. MARCELLA BRANHAM BASHAM ROCKY MOUNT, VA – Mrs. Marcella (Branham) Basham, 68, entered into eternity Monday September 5, 2016 from the Carilion Memorial Hospital-Rocky Mount, VA after an extended illness. Her loving family was by her side. Marcella was a born in Pound, VA on October 28, 1947 to the late Leatrice Joy Branham . She was a Christian of the Freewill Baptist faith and attended Hope Freewill Baptist Church. Marcella was a breast cancer survivor. She worked at the Beckley News Paper in the mail room for 17 plus years. She loved going to church and dressing up for church.Marcella was a loyal supporter of St. Judes Children’s Hospital. She loved shopping and buying gifts for her friends and family, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. In addition to her mother Leatrice Branham Groves, Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Dale Basham. REBAL MULLINS BOGGS POUND, VA - Mrs. Rebal (Granny) Boggs, 95, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and family members that preceded her on Tuesday September 6, 2016. Her loving family was at her bedside. Rebal was born July 8, 1921 to the late Merida and Bessie (Cantrell) Mullins Granny was a born again Christian and was a member Pyles Memorial Church-Pound, VA. She was a loving and caring wife to husband Letcher (Poodle) Boggs for 73 years before his passing December 31, 2011. She was a dedicated homemaker, always caring for her husband and children. Granny loved her church and her neighbors as well. Poodle and Granny raised gardens, and canned their harvest. She also enjoyed quilting. Granny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother, sister and friend. ROBERT LAWRENCE EAKIN, SR. NORTON, VA – Mr. Robert Lawrence Eakin, Sr., 77, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday August 30, 2016 from his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife Marie was by his side. Robert was a born again Christian and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Pound, VA. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and former over the road truck driver truck driver. He was also a former employee for the forestry department. Robert also previously owned a taxi cab service, a printing business and a chimney sweep service. He also loved music and played both the electric and acoustic guitar. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ruby (Fitzgerald) Eakin; a daughter, Terri Eakin; a grandson; his first wife, Lorrain Eakin; and his third wife, Faye Eakin. EULA ROSALIE TOMPKINS POUND, VA – Mrs. Rosalie Tompkins, 82, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday August 18, 2016 from her residence. She was surrounded by her loving family. Rosalie was of the Freewill Baptist faith and a member of Pyles Memorial Freewill Baptist Church. She worked several years as a CNA doing home health care. Rosalie Enjoyed nothing more, than cooking for her family. Rosalie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Donnie Lee Tompkins; her parents, Patton and Alice (Hollyfield) Mullins; her sisters, Ella Collins, Olive Strouth and Sarah Bizzel; her brothers, Albert Mullins, Arthur Mullins, Carlos Mullins, James Mullins, Aaron Mullins and Clovis Mullins. NEADA CAROL MULLINS WISE, VA – Mrs. Neada Carol Mullins, 60, entered into eternity Sunday August 14, 2016 from the Holston Valley Medical Center-Kingsport, TN after an extended illness. Neada Carol was a homemaker and a Christian of the Baptist faith. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles and sewing.. She was a loving mother, sister and friend. Neada Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Creed and Noma (Hubbard) Mullins; her husband, Arlin Mullins; step-sons, Bobby Joe Gilley and Roy Gilley; a step-daughter Sandra Mullins and her brothers Ked Mullins and Chester Hubbard Survivors include her son Edward Mullins-Pound, VA; her step-sons, Randy Mullins- Pound, VA and Terry Mullins-Sequim, WA; several grandchildren; and a host of family and friendsto mourn her loss and cherish her memory. RONALD CLAY STURGILL EOLIA, KY- Ronald Clay (Red Eye) Sturgill, 63, passed away Thursday July 28, 2016 from his residence with his loving wife and daughter by his side. Ronald was of the Baptist faith. He was a coal truck driver for 40 plus years. Red Eye enjoyed planting and working in his garden, yardwork, beekeeping and tinkering around on cars or trucks. Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, Henry (Pee Wee) and Margaret (Hubbard) Sturgill. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nora Marie (McFarland) Sturgill- Eolia, KY; a daughter, Brandi Mullins and husband Lester- Eolia, KY; a grandson, Raymond Barnette; sisters, Sharon Pease and husband Bert- Big Stone Gap, VA, Nina Jenks and husband Joe- Romania and Henrietta McFarland and husband James-Whitesburg, KY; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory. DEBORAH JOAN HUGHES CARTERSVILLE, GA - Mrs. Deborah Joan Hughes,62, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Cartersville Medical Center. Born in Lorain, Ohio on October 7, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Milford and Betty Jane (Gamble) Brock. Mrs. Hughes was a helpful person and enjoyed crocheting hats, caps and scarves for cancer patients, especially cancer patients at the children’s hospital. She never met a stranger. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Brock and a brother, Gerald Brock. Survivors include her loving husband of 44 years, William Hughes- Cartersville, GA; her daughter, Lisa Hughes- Cartersville, GA; her siblings, Sheila Brock, Michael Brock and Greg Brock all of Los Angeles, CA and Robert Brock- Beaumont, CA; numerous nieces and nephews in Virginia and California. She is also survived by several brothers and sisters in law both in Virginia and California; special brother and sister in law, Reuben and Louise Bolling- Pound, VA. RANDALL LEE STANLEY CLINTWOOD, VA – Randall Lee Stanley,56, entered into eternity Thursday July7, 2016 from the Bristol Regional Medical Center after along and courageous battle with cancer. His loving family was at his bedside. Randy was Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a lifelong resident of Clintwood, VA. He was a 1978 graduate of Clintwood High School where he played football on two state championship teams and baseball as well. Randy was very active in his community, he was a former Kiwanian, and past president of the Clintwood Youth Football League and helped coach hundreds of kids in youth sports. Randy, was a former coal truck driver for 10 years working for D&R Trucking and Kelly Energy, as well as heavy equipment operator having worked for nearly 19 years for Humphreys Coal Company before his retirement. He was jack of all trades, always tinkering with cars or motorcycles. He loved riding. Randy loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He enjoyed working in his garden. He was a baseball fan and an avid NASCAR fan, until the untimely death of Dale Earnhardt, Sr . Randy’s greatest joy though was time spent with his children and grandchildren. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Columbus Stanley; an infant brother, David Jess Stanley; his best friend, Jeff (Hooter) Hobbs and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 36 years, Rachelle (Allen) Stanley- Clintwood, VA; a son, Logan Jess Stanley-Clintwood, VA; a daughter, Tiffany Mullins and husband Justin -Clintwood, VA; grandchildren, Braden Lee Stanley, Braxton Lee Mullins and Ryker Lee Mullins; his mother, Shirley (Edwards) Stanley-Abingdon, VA; sisters, Deborah Carswell and husband Gene, Bristol, VA and Tina Fleming and husband Todd- Powhatan, VA; a brother, Jeff B. DORIS JEAN HUNSUCKER EOLIA, KY- Mrs. Doris Jean Hunsucker, 82, entered into eternity Saturday June 25, 2016 from Letcher Manor-Whitesburg, KY. Jean was of the Freewill Baptist faith and attended the Hopkins Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed gardening and canning, cooking and quilting. Her favorite TV show was the Young and the Restless. Jean’s favorite pastime was spending time and laughing with her family. JOHNNY STAPLETON WISE, VA – Johnny Stapleton, 68, entered into eternity Thursday June 23, 2016 from his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His loving family was at his bedside. Johnny was of the Baptist faith. He was a welder/mechanic and a jack of all trades. He was a formrer employee of Humphreys Enterprises, Barnette Contractos, Cody Equipment and Independent Equipment. There were very few things that Johnny could not fix. He had a friendly personality and never met a stranger. He also had Doctorate Degree in “Johnny Philosophy” and with that, there were three ways of doing things (the right way, the wrong way and of course the Johnny way). Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Ollie (Smith) Stapleton; a sister, Wilma Jean Markham; and his brothers, Elmer Stapleton, Sam Stapleton, Martin Stapleton and Tommy Stapleton. GERALD ROGER MULLINS WISE, VA- Gerald Roger Mullins, 66, went home to be with his Lord and his baby girl Tiffani Sunday June19,2016 from his residence in Wise, VA. He was surrounded by his loving family. Gerald was a Christian and attended Hubbard Chapel Church. He was known as an honorable, humble loving man. He was a former mechanic and a jack of all trades. He was always tinkering with and fixing things. Gerald was also a prankster too, and loved nothing better than getting a good joke on his family and friends. Being a loving devoted father, and grandfather, nothing made him happier than spending time with the people he loved. Gerald also was a talented singer and enjoyed watching westerns and “booger” movies as well as hunting and fishing. Gerald was preceded in death by his baby girl, TiffaniNicole Mullins; his parents, Ivory and Christine Mullins; his wife, Anita Mullins; a sister Retta Gaye Brookman; brothers, Glenn Mullins and Robert Mullins; and a nephew Robert Scott Mullins. ANDREW CARTER POUND, VA - Andrew Carter, 25, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday June 17, 2016 from the UK Medical Center- Lexington, KY after a long and courageous battle with an extended illness. Andrew was a born again Christian of the Pentecostal faith and attended the Norton Pentecostal Church and Pyles Memorial Chapel-Pound, VA. He enjoyed four wheeling, weight lifting and playing basketball. His favorite team was the Lakers. Andrew also liked hanging out with his friends and playing X Box online, as well as watching UFC fighting and movies.. LEROY FRANKLIN WILKINS, JR. KINGSPORT, TN – Leroy Franklin Wilkins Jr., 66, entered into eternity Monday June 6, 2016 from Holston Valley Medical Center-Kingsport, TN. His family was at his bedside. Leroy was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Army having proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Army after 20 years of active and reserve service. Leroy enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting, as well as gardening and yardwork and especially loved rose bushes. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Wilkins, Sr. and Claudia (Anderkin) Wilkins; sisters, Diana Wilkins Dina Sue Wilkins; and a brother, James Wilkins.
