SANDRA SHORT POUND, VA- Sandra Short, 65, went to be with her Lord, Wednesday November 26, 2014 from her residence. Sandra was a Christian and a member of the Pyles Memorial Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, watching old movies and family get togethers. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Arvil and Dollie (Mullins) Short; brothers, Burnis Short, Elsin Short and Wade Short; and sisters Kaye Short, Loretta Fleming and Alberta Maggard. Survivors include her daughters, Victoria Lee Adams and husband Todd-Pound, VA and Sarah Katherine Powers and husband Randall-Fort Bragg, NC; a son, Cecil Jonathan (CJ)Boggs- Norton, VA; grandchildren, Josh Powers, Jadis Adams and Lilly Adams; sisters, Anna Ruth (Don) Welch, Eileen Mullins, Ella Gay (James Micah) Meade, and Violet Branham all of Pound, VA; brothers, Johnny Short (Lola)-Castlewood, VA and Daniel Short (Debbie)-Wise, VA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and love ones to mourn her passing and cherish her memory. CHARLES EDWARD CRAWFORD POUND, VA- Charles Edward Crawford, 76, was born January 24, 1938 in Bluff City, TN, he went to be with the Lord on Wednesday November 26, 2014 from the Mountain View Regional Medical Center, Norton VA. Charlie was of the Baptist faith. He was a heavy equipment, 992C loader operator at Humphreys Enterprise- Norton, VA until his retirement in 2000 after working there for nearly 20 years. Also having his own trucking company, Crawford Trucking. He enjoyed spending time with his family, but what he loved doing mostly was sitting on the front porch waving and talking to friends who would stop by. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Earl (Cotton) and Ruby Oliver Crawford; his in laws, Dillard and Mary Mullins: special brother and sister in law Dennis and Retta Gay Mullins Boggs; sister, Sharon Crawford Moore; brother, Gary Crawford; two infant grandsons, William Dustin Cannon and John Kilmer Scott. EDNA LEE STIDHAM POUND, VA- Edna Lee Stidham, 93, entered into eternal rest Saturday November 22, 2014 from the Mountain View Regional Medical Center- Norton, VA. She was surrounded by her loving children. Edna was a Christian of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother sister and friend. Edna was devoted and a hard working homemaker, she enjoyed working in the garden, canning, preserving, cooking, sewing and taking care of her family. Edna was a big Elvis Presley fan, visiting Graceland twice and also spent many hours watching professional wrestling. Edna enjoyed going to flea markets and loved playing jokes on her family and friends. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Stidham; her parents, Jonas and Belle (Sturgill) Mullins; a son, James Ale Stidham; a granddaughter, Carolyn Stidham; sister,Bertha Sturgill and infant sister, Ada Lee Mullins. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Gail Barker and husband Larry–Pound, VA; her sons, Glenn Dale Stidham and wife Lana-Parkton, MD, Royce G. Stidham and wife Iva, Bobby K. DAVID DOUGLAS MULLINS POUND, VA – David Douglas Mullins, 66, entered into eternity with his beloved son, David on Saturday November 22, 2014 from the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Doug was a Christian of the Freewill Baptist Faith, he attended the Indian Creek Freewill Baptist Church-Pound, VA. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather brother and friend. He enjoyed going to church, cooking, fishing, working in his garden and canning what he grew. He also loved to tend to his bees and collect the honey and cracking walnuts to sale. Doug enjoyed making homemade vegetable soup and candy, even when he wasn’t feeling his best. But he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Doug was preceded in death by his son, David Douglas Mullins, Jr on May 1, 1977.; his father Albert Mullins, Sr ; brothers, Albert Mullins, Jr , Rodney Mullins, Gary Mullins; three infants brothers and two infant sisters. ANITA DIANE MULLINS WISE, VA- Anita Diane Mullins, 59, entered into edternity Monday November 17, 2014 from the Bristol Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Her loving family was by her side. Anita was a Christian of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed reading, watching television and spending time with family and friends. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, McKinley William and Ada Louise (Eads) Smith, and her step-daughter, Tiffani Mullins Survivors include her husband of 12 years, Gerald Mullins-Wise, VA; sons, Bryan Preston Davidson and Aaron Thomas Davidson both of Andover VA and Justin McKinley Davidson and wife Stephanie-Mt. NOAH AMOS MAGGARD POUND, VA – Noah Amos Maggard, 91, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2014 with his children by his side. Amos was born December 8, 1922 in Burdine, KY and was the son of the late Charlie and Alta Maggard. In addition to his parents, Amos was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Kiser Maggard, two brothers, Paul and Bruce Maggard, two sisters, Ernestine Maggard and Cleo Braman, one grandson, Christopher Haynes, daughter-in-law, Neena Maggard, and son- in-law, Dave Roberson. Amos is survived by his son Gary Maggard, and his three daughters, Dianne Roberson, Debbie Hartsock (Gary), and Kim Clingenpeel (Todd). Amos also leaves behind six grand- children, Tony Maggard, Paul Maggard, Paula Maggard, Darren Roberson, Brian Hartsock, and Laura Clingenpeel and six great-grandchildren, Anthony Maggard, Cole Maggard, Max Roberson, Parker Maggard, Hank Maggard and Elizabeth Maggard. In ADDITION, Amos is survived by his sisters, Marguerite Nowell and Annette Cobb, and one Brother, Carl Maggard. Amos served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Pound VFW Post 9600 where he was quartermaster for over 55 years. He was employed by the Virginia ABC Board and at retirement was manager the ABC Store in Pound, VA. Amos was a Christian and attended Hamilton Chapel Church in Pound, VA. Amos never met a stranger and enjoyed many activities including bowling, playing cards, Pitching horse shoes , and shooting pool with his many friends. He acquired the nickname of “Crow” due to his skill at playing Rook- he was one of the best. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the Virginia Veteran’s Care Center (Alzheimer’s Unit), Lewis-Gale Medical Center, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their care and support of Amos and his family. JIMMY BRIAN CARTY WISE, VA- Jimmy Brian Carty, 44, passed away Sunday November 9, 2014 from Mountain View Hospital-Norton VA. Brian was a Christian of the Old Regular Baptist faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and son. He was a workaholic, having worked the last 15 + years for Huff’s Auto. Brian was a jack of all trades, good at welding, woodworking and carpentry. He loved being outdoors and riding his four wheeler. But his favorite thing was spending time with his family, especially Pappy’s Girl, Kylee Love. She was a pleasant lady with a kind heart who enjoyed life and spending time with her friends and family. Lillian also loved her chihuahuas. She was a homemaker and a former employee on a mint farm in Oregon. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Charles Taylor; her parents, Budd and Isabell (Jennings)Thompson; and a sister, Ruby Lee Cruiz. TIFFANY AMBER MICKLES ROSE COEBURN, VA – Tiffany Amber Mickles Rose, 31, passed away Friday October 31, 2014 from the Johnson City Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Tiffany was born January 25, 1983. She was of the Pentecostal faith and was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Tiffany enjoyed drawing, doing crafts, playing video games and chatting on facebook. Her biggest joy was spending time with her children. She was an animal lover, taking in any strays that came along, but she especially loved her American Pit Bull “Dew”. She also loved Halloween, it was her favorite holiday. JOYCE FAYE ANDERSON JENKINS, KY – Joyce Faye Anderson, 77, entered into eternity Thursday October 30, 2014 from the Pikeville Medical Center-Pikeville, KY after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was a Christian of the Pentecostal faith and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy- Burdine, KY. She was a former cafeteria worker for the Jenkins School system. Joyce was an avid Rick Pitino fan and enjoyed both University of Louisville and University of Kentucky basketeball. But her greatest joy was the time she spent with her great-grandchildren and her dogs. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, George and Vergie (Reed) Anderson; ; a son-in-law, Larry Maggard; a sister, Jacqueline Lake; and two brothers, Glen and Lester Anderson . EUGENE COLLINS POUND, VA – Eugene Collins, 77, entered into his Heavenly Home October 29, 2014 from Holston Valley Medical Center-Kingsport, TN. Eugene was a Christian of the Pentecostal faith. He attended Pyles Memorial Chapel in Pound and Guest River Pentecostal Church in Norton He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a former bookkeeper for Pound Hardware for 26 years and Gerald Gray law office for 17 years, an employee of Sykes for 5 years and also drove the railroad taxi for 2 years. Eugene was an active member of 30 years in the Pound Lions Club. He enjoyed playing the guitar and sang county and gospel songs, watching sports, especially football, doing yard work, gardening, canning and preserving, working crossword puzzles but spending time being “Paw-Paw” to his grandchildren was priceless to him. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents Olen and Hazel (Swanson) Collins; and a granddaughter, Autumn Collins. JOHN ROY HAYES POUND, VA- John Roy Hayes, 77, passed away peacefully Monday October 27, 2014 from his residence. He was surrounded by his loving family. John was of the Roman Catholic faith and a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Clintwood, VA. Sir John Hayes was also a Knight of the Third Degree in the Glenmary Council 7853 of the Knights of Columbus. He had held the offices of Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight, Chancellor, Recorder, Outside Guard, Trustee, Church Director, and Degree Team Chancellor. John was an honorary life member having been a member for 32 years. He was an avid supporter of the intellectually challenged and he served as the Council Director for the KOVAR (Knights of Virginia Assisting the Retarded). John was a coal miner for nearly 30 years, having worked for Scotia Coal, Betty B Coal and Cumberland River Coal. He was also a former railroad employee and had worked for an aeronautical company as a line supervisor .putting seat in jets. John enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and working around the house. He was also an avid University of Kentucky Wildcat fan. GUY CLIFFORD AKERS POUND, VA- Guy Clifford Akers, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Monday October 27, 2014 from his residence. He was surrounded by his loving family. Guy was a Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a former plasterer and drywall worker and retired as an employee of the Wise County school system maintenance department. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. ELSIE E. MULLINS YPSILANTI, MI – Mrs. Elsie E. Mullins, 87, passed away Thursday October 23, 2014 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 23, 1927 in Jenkins, KY, the daughter of Andy and Laura (Perkins) Mullins. Elsie was a nurse at Beyer Memorial Hospital and then the University of Michigan Hospital. She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #782, the VFW Ladies Auxillary # 9600 and the Michigan Licensed Practical Nurses Association. She loved Bingo and her dogs. Survivors include her children, Paulette Sexton-Jenkins, KY and Tom (Cheryl Ward) Mullins- Ypsilanti, MI; four grandchildren, Robbie (Sherri) Sexton, Kristi Sexton, Michael (Gayle) Mullins, and Melissa (Brian) Genik; seven great-grandchildren, Brittany, Kristen, Mollie, Katie, Katelyn, Brenton and Koty; two great-great–grandsons, Caiden and Tucker; a brother, Roy Mullins- Jacksonville, FL.; several nieces and nephews; and her longtime man friend, Virgil Christophel. NANCY LOUISE HUTCHISON POUND,VA- Nancy Louise Hutchison, 55, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Thursday October 9, 2014 from the Holston Valley Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was affectionately known to many people as “Miss Nancy” having served for 23 years as a librarian for Wise County Public Library and overseeing the Story Time Program for the pre-school children. Nancy loved her precious time she spent with her own grandchildren which she loved so dearly. She enjoyed traveling, especially trips with her family and friends. Nancy was an avid reader of all types of material. She was a courageous fighter, with the patience of Jobe, always cheerful and a beautiful smile, She had a kind word or compliment for everyone. Deborah enjoyed traveling, especially overseas, going to church and playing the piano and reading. Deborah was best known for her loving heart and willingness to help others that were in need. Deborah was preceded in death by a nephew, Blake Young.
