JAYDEN MICHAEL AARON SUTHERLAND POUND, VA – Jay Sutherland, 11, left his home and joined the angels in the arms of Jesus Friday July 3, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family as he peacefully entered into Heaven. Jay was an inspirational young man. He faced his adversities with courage and hope, never complaining about his situation. Although Jay’s illness made him appear frail, he possessed true strength. He kept a smile on his face and love in his heart. Jay’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that it was the quality rather than the quantity of time that matters and to believe that each day is a blessing. With Jay’s passing, we are reminded that his life is to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, especially his smile, he will forever remain in our hearts. We are thankful that his sister Abigail (Ab) had her brother so she can hold dear the memory of Jay’s spirit and know that love lives on. Abigail’s quote to her brother was “Family by chance, best friends by choice.” Jay’s mother wanted it to be know that Matt is an example of what a father should be, putting Jay needs and care as his top priority. Jay enjoyed watching television, he loved Legos, Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Phineas and Ferb and especially Jessie on the Disney Channel. He loved playing jokes on his family and friends, his laugh would bring a smile to your face and joy to your heart. Jay had a special friend, his dog Lego that he loved dearly. Jay was preceded in death by his great-grandparents Wes Robinson, Garman and Pauline Edwards and Roosevelt and Hilda Sutherland. Survivors include his parents, Matthew and Amanda (Robinson) Sutherland; a sister and best friend Abigail (Ab) Sutherland; two brothers, Lucas and Payton Sutherland, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Harry and Vickie Sutherland-Clinchco, VA; maternal grandparents, Michael (Cotton) and Jean Robinson-Pound, VA; paternal great-grandparents Ulis and Ramona Sturgill-Pound, VA; maternal great-grandmother, Joan Mullins-Pound, VA; special uncle, Adam Robinson- Pound, VA; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones.
