LILLIE MAE BOGGS POUND, VA- Lillie “Bug” Boggs , 70, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday February 23, 2017 from Holston Valley Medical Center- Kingsport, TN. Her loving family was by her side. Bug was a Christian of the Baptist faith. She loved spending time and relaxing at the camper on the river with her family. She loved fishing, especially when she caught the “big one” . Bug was always ready for a good time, if it was just her and Jerry or with a group of people. She enjoyed traveling and going to casinos, Texas holdem poker slots was her favorite. Her greatest pleasure was spoiling her grandchildren. Bug was small in stature, but she was dynamite. Bug was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and daughter and sister. She had devoted much of time the last few years helping care for her mother, Tessie June Taylor, who went home to the Lord on February 17, 2017. In addition to her mother, Lillie was preceded in death by her father, Hugh Marcum and a sister, Carol Sue Mullins. Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Jerry Boggs- Pound, VA; a daughter, Tammy Marie Vanover and husband John- Clintwood, VA; her sons, Ricky Allen Boggs and companion Katherine Clemmons–Pound, VA and Jerry Lynn ‘Bear’ Boggs and wife Lindsey Pound, VA; grandchildren; Jasmine Vanover, Laken Vanover, Olivia Vanover, Cody Boggs, Candice Boggs, Brody Boggs, Austin Boggs, Breanna Boggs, Amanda Boggs and Michelle Jones; great grandchild, Tristan Jones; a brother, Jimmy Taylor and wife Karen-Pound, VA; a sister, Linda Osborne and husband Charles-Pound, VA; several special brothers in law and sisters in law; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friend and mother of her granchildren Kimberly Campbell; and a host of friends and loved ones; and her beloved schnauzer Sadie Lou. LOIS ANN HAMPTON POUND, VA - Lois Ann Hampton, 82, passed away Friday February 17, 2017 at Heritage Hall in Big Stone Gap, VA after an extended battle with Alzhiemer’s disease. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of her family and friends carried her throughout the stages of her illness. Lois was born on September 2, 1934 to Wayne and Nanny Stallard. On March 7, 1952 she married Lester Hampton. Married for 40 years, Lois and Lester raised their two children Patti Diane and Johnny Lester in Kentucky and Virginia. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Lois faithfully cared for her God-given family and her church family through prayer, cooking and quilting. Alongside of Lester, Lois became the heart of the Hampton family. Together they shaped their family’s spirituality through their tireless Christian examples. With a real passion for life, Lois loved to laugh, sing, bake, read, work in her garden and spend time with her family and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her mother and father, Wayne and Nanny Stallard; her sister, Wilma Stallard Sturgill; her brother, Donnie Stallard; her husband, Reverend Lester Hampton; and her son, Johnny Lester Hampton, Sr.. Lois is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patti Hampton Sowards and David Sowards of Dobson, NC; her grandchildren, Rebecca Sowards Luffman and husband Jackie Luffman of State Road, NC, Monica Sowards Porter of Elkin, NC, David Wayne Sowards and wife Brooke Cameron Sowards of Dobson, NC and Johnny Lester Hampton, Jr. of Pound, VA; and her great-grandchildren; Beau and Brooke Martin of State Road, NC., Abigail and Sophia Porter of Elkins, NC and Ty and Khloe Sowards of Dobson, NC. Lois cherished the earthly family that she was blessed with. Unfortunately, there are to many beloved family members, in- laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in Christ to list or even count. BEATRICE VARNER POUND, VA - Mrs. Beatrice “Bea” Varner, 79, peacefully entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior Wednesday February 1, 2017 from the Specialty Select Hospital- Bristol, TN. Her loving family was at her bedside. Bea was a devoted Christian, she was a former member of Trinty Life Center Church and a member of Ferbie Chapel Church. She had been employed by the U.S. Department of Labor, the Green County Ohio Family and Children Services, Wise ARH Hospital, head cashier for her husband and retired from the Virginia Employment Commission as an account representative and interviewer in 1999. Her most important job was raising her beloved children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her home was always an “open house” and friends and family were always welcome. She loved caring for kids that needed the care. Bea enjoyed cooking, working in her flower garden, reading and being a prayer warrior. Bea was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert Ray (Bob) Varner, Sr.; her daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Pennington; her parents, Buie and Elizabeth (Bethel) Potter Boggs; a sister, Nita Jane Boggs; grandson Michael Hull; and son-in-law Mike Hull. KENNETH WENDALL MULLINS WISE, VA – Mr. Kenneth Wendall Mullins, 91, entered peacefully into eternity Thursday January 26, 2017 from the Heritage Hall-Wise, VA. Kenneth was born November 11, 1925 in Pound, VA to the late Lloyd and Florence (Jones) Mullins. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during World War II. He served his country honorably and received the Silver Star, the Purple Heart and the Pacific Theater medals. Kenneth worked for a while on the assembly line for Ford Motor Company and retired with 50years of service in management at Giant Foods. He was proud to work and provide for his family. He loved his grandchildren dearly. Kenneth also enjoyed golfing, watching hockey games and traveling. In addition to his parents Kenneth was preceded in death by his sister Thelma Barker And his brothers Newman Mullins, Fred Mullins and Dr. Harold Mullins. GARY GENE BOGGS POUND, VA – Gary Gene (Big Gary) Boggs, 63, went to meet his Lord on Saturday January 21, 2017 from the Select Specialty Hospital-Bristol, TN after an extended illness. His wife, children and loving family were at his bedside. Big Gary was a dedicated family man, always trying to provide for and take care of his family. He was a former heavy equipment operator with 20 + years of service. Gary was a Christian and attended Lone Pine Chapel Church. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He loved going to Warrior football games and Lady Warrior basketball games and Nascar Racing, especially Dale Earnhardt. Gary loved family gatherings and going to the campground at the river. He always wanted to be the first person to all the gatherings. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Burnis and Okie (Cantrell) Boggs ; his sister, Hazel Marie Boggs and an infant sister. DELLA SUE MAGGARD MOORE Pound, VA.- Della Sue Maggard Moore, 64, passed from this life into the care of her Lord and Savior Friday January 20, 2017 from Heritage Hall- Wise, VA. Her loving family was at her bedside Della was a Christian of the Baptist faith and attended Pyles Memorial Church-Pound, VA. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, aunt and friend. Della was a homemaker and recently was a volunteer business office assistant at Heritage Hall. She enjoyed going to church and church events and traveling with her sister Glenda. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting. Della loved family gatherings and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed bluegrass music and loved Pepsi and a good cigarette. Della was preceded in death by her parents, Mitchell and Alberta (Short) Maggard; and a sister, Glenda Gail Lowe. NORA CAROL BANKS WISE, VA- Nora Carol Banks, 57, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from the Holston Valley Medical Center- Kingsport, TN. She was surrounded by her loving family. Nora was an amazing mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She worked for 10 years at Neon Grade School and was presently an employee for nearly 11 years at Beeline Fas Mart in Wise, VA . She was dedicated to her work and providing for her family. She enjoyed playing Hayday, watching HGTV, home renovation shows and the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie. But her greatest pleasure was spending time with her children and grandchildren. DONNIE LEE TAYLOR POUND, VA- Donnie Lee Taylor, 61, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday January 17, 2017 from the Pikeville Medical Center. He was surrounded by his loving family. Donnie was of the Baptist faith and attended Millstone Missionary Baptist Church- Millstone, KY. He was a retired miner and chief electrician with over 35 years of service. He enjoyed traveling, mechanic work, he was always chasing ambulances and emergency vehicles, pranking around with everyone and bossing people around (if they needed it or not). He loved children and they were drawn to him. But spending time with his family was his greatest joy. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Madison Eugene and Ruth (Craft) Taylor ; brothers,Carl (Junior) Polly and Jimmy Taylor. SAMMY GUY CHESTER POUND, VA- Sammy Guy “Sam” Chester, 60, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday January 15, 2017 from the Pikeville Medical Center after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family. Sam was such an inspiration to many of us. He was an amazing husband to his beautiful wife of nearly 37 years Nora Chester, an honorable father to his sons, Jeremy and John John and an awesome grandfather to his grandchildren. His inspiration is led by the numerous medical predicted outcomes that he proved to be wrong. He has survived multiple heart attacks, four wheeler accidents, heart surgeries and hip surgeries. Meeting this man in person, you would never have believed what all he had been though and overcame. He was the most kind hearted individual and just an all around amazing person to everyone. Last year we found out that Sam was diagnosed with Small Cell Carcinoma in the right lung. He didn’t let that stop him though. He persevered through treatments and radiation. In July we found out that Sam was in remission! We were blessed, as this type of cancer typically doesn’t go into remission. A few months later, he started getting weak again and we found out in December the cancer bounced back in the same place as the last time, the right lung. Sam was tired but still told us he wouldn’t give up. As 23 days passed with him being in numerous hospitals, he said that he was finally ready to be with the Lord. After a long, hard fought battle with cancer, Sam finally won. He gained his angel wings and is suffering no more pain. Sam was of the Pentecostal faith and was a retired miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He had lots of friends, but his closest friend was his son Jeremy. Sam enjoyed four wheeling, camping, shooting guns and talking to with his CB buddies, his handle being ”Riverboat Gambler”. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan and Tennessee Volunteer football fan and enjoyed watching the Discovery Channel. But spending time with his family was what he loved and cherished the most. Sam was preceded in death by his mother Naomi Chester on September 27, 2012; a sister, Connie Krebs; and a niece, Melissa Krebs. Survivors include his loving wife, Nora Chester-Pound, VA; his sons, Jeremy Chester and wife Chelsea-Pound, VA; John Turner- Pound, VA; grandchildren, Chase Polly, Greyson Chester, Lee Polly, Jayden Chester, Breanna Turner and Caleb Brickey; his father, Guy Chester-Wise, VA; a sister, Kathy Chester- Wise, VA; a brother. TENNA JEAN TACKETT MANASSAS, VA - Tenna Jean Tackett, 67, left this world to go to her eternal home Friday January 6, 2017 from the Norton Community Hospital after a lengthy illness. Her loving family was at her bedside. Tenna was former resident of Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky before moving to Manassas to live with her daughter Leatrice. She was a former cafeteria worker for the Pike County School System as well as a homemaker. Tenna was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was a hard worker and provided for her family. She enjoyed a good cigarette, liked to go to casinos and was especially fond of the slot machines, and was an avid Willie Nelson fan. But her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tenna was preceded in death by her husband, Willie T. Tackett; a son, William Rose; her parents Fletcher and Myrtle (Little) Rose; her sisters, Goldie Belcher, Nellie Branham and Pearlie Rose; and her brothers, Crit Rose and Basil Rose.
