RANDALL LEE STANLEY CLINTWOOD, VA – Randall Lee Stanley,56, entered into eternity Thursday July7, 2016 from the Bristol Regional Medical Center after along and courageous battle with cancer. His loving family was at his bedside. Randy was Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a lifelong resident of Clintwood, VA. He was a 1978 graduate of Clintwood High School where he played football on two state championship teams and baseball as well. Randy was very active in his community, he was a former Kiwanian, and past president of the Clintwood Youth Football League and helped coach hundreds of kids in youth sports. Randy, was a former coal truck driver for 10 years working for D&R Trucking and Kelly Energy, as well as heavy equipment operator having worked for nearly 19 years for Humphreys Coal Company before his retirement. He was jack of all trades, always tinkering with cars or motorcycles. He loved riding. Randy loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He enjoyed working in his garden. He was a baseball fan and an avid NASCAR fan, until the untimely death of Dale Earnhardt, Sr . Randy’s greatest joy though was time spent with his children and grandchildren. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Columbus Stanley; an infant brother, David Jess Stanley; his best friend, Jeff (Hooter) Hobbs and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 36 years, Rachelle (Allen) Stanley- Clintwood, VA; a son, Logan Jess Stanley-Clintwood, VA; a daughter, Tiffany Mullins and husband Justin -Clintwood, VA; grandchildren, Braden Lee Stanley, Braxton Lee Mullins and Ryker Lee Mullins; his mother, Shirley (Edwards) Stanley-Abingdon, VA; sisters, Deborah Carswell and husband Gene, Bristol, VA and Tina Fleming and husband Todd- Powhatan, VA; a brother, Jeff B. Stanley and wife Kay-Clintwood, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his K-9 friend, an English setter named Pluto; and a host of friends and loved ones. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Alton Blow, for being there from the beginning of this journey till the end with Randy, to all the doctors, ICU staff, nursing staff and infusion staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Monday July 11, 2016 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Yates and Reverend Lynn Vanover officiating . DORIS JEAN HUNSUCKER EOLIA, KY- Mrs. Doris Jean Hunsucker, 82, entered into eternity Saturday June 25, 2016 from Letcher Manor-Whitesburg, KY. Jean was of the Freewill Baptist faith and attended the Hopkins Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed gardening and canning, cooking and quilting. Her favorite TV show was the Young and the Restless. Jean’s favorite pastime was spending time and laughing with her family. JOHNNY STAPLETON WISE, VA – Johnny Stapleton, 68, entered into eternity Thursday June 23, 2016 from his residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His loving family was at his bedside. Johnny was of the Baptist faith. He was a welder/mechanic and a jack of all trades. He was a formrer employee of Humphreys Enterprises, Barnette Contractos, Cody Equipment and Independent Equipment. There were very few things that Johnny could not fix. He had a friendly personality and never met a stranger. He also had Doctorate Degree in “Johnny Philosophy” and with that, there were three ways of doing things (the right way, the wrong way and of course the Johnny way). Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Ollie (Smith) Stapleton; a sister, Wilma Jean Markham; and his brothers, Elmer Stapleton, Sam Stapleton, Martin Stapleton and Tommy Stapleton. LOLA AVALENA STEWART POUND, VA – Mrs. Lola Avalena Stewart, 94, entered into eternity Tuesday June 21, 2016 from her residence. Lola was of the Old Regular Baptist faith. She was a devoted homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning , preserving and singing old ballads and hymns. But mostly, Lola loved spending time with her precious family. GERALD ROGER MULLINS WISE, VA- Gerald Roger Mullins, 66, went home to be with his Lord and his baby girl Tiffani Sunday June19,2016 from his residence in Wise, VA. He was surrounded by his loving family. Gerald was a Christian and attended Hubbard Chapel Church. He was known as an honorable, humble loving man. He was a former mechanic and a jack of all trades. He was always tinkering with and fixing things. Gerald was also a prankster too, and loved nothing better than getting a good joke on his family and friends. Being a loving devoted father, and grandfather, nothing made him happier than spending time with the people he loved. Gerald also was a talented singer and enjoyed watching westerns and “booger” movies as well as hunting and fishing. Gerald was preceded in death by his baby girl, TiffaniNicole Mullins; his parents, Ivory and Christine Mullins; his wife, Anita Mullins; a sister Retta Gaye Brookman; brothers, Glenn Mullins and Robert Mullins; and a nephew Robert Scott Mullins. ANDREW CARTER POUND, VA - Andrew Carter, 25, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday June 17, 2016 from the UK Medical Center- Lexington, KY after a long and courageous battle with an extended illness. Andrew was a born again Christian of the Pentecostal faith and attended the Norton Pentecostal Church and Pyles Memorial Chapel-Pound, VA. He enjoyed four wheeling, weight lifting and playing basketball. His favorite team was the Lakers. Andrew also liked hanging out with his friends and playing X Box online, as well as watching UFC fighting and movies.. Andrew was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Faye Gentry; an uncle, Shannon Gentry and a great-uncle Jerry Vanover. LEROY FRANKLIN WILKINS, JR. KINGSPORT, TN – Leroy Franklin Wilkins Jr., 66, entered into eternity Monday June 6, 2016 from Holston Valley Medical Center-Kingsport, TN. His family was at his bedside. Leroy was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the United States Army having proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Army after 20 years of active and reserve service. Leroy enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting, as well as gardening and yardwork and especially loved rose bushes. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Wilkins, Sr. and Claudia (Anderkin) Wilkins; sisters, Diana Wilkins Dina Sue Wilkins; and a brother, James Wilkins. NELLIE (NELL) FAYE SHORTT OAKRIDGE, OR – Nellie (Nell) Faye Shortt, 92, passed away on May 26, 2016 in Creswell, OR surrounded by her loving family. Nell was born in Praise, KY in 1924 to MacClellan and Nancy Addington. She spent her youth in various areas of Kentucky and Virginia. She had three sisters and three brothers. In 1942 she married Burlie Harve Shortt . They were married for 49 years before his preceeding her in death in 1991. Nell spent many years doing child care. She worked for “Head Start” and did child care for many families. All the kids loved her and she enjoyed helping them learn and grow to be respectful of others and of nature. She was the last remaining charter member of Glady Fork Church in Pound, VA. She loved going to church and especially loved to sing. She was involved in many activities at the church helping to raise funds to build the new church and teaching Sunday school. Nell was very talented. She was an accomplished seamstress and made clothes for her children, grandchildren and often sewed or altered clothing for family and friends. She started oil painting classes when she was 75 and did beautiful paintings she gave to family and friends. She was an excellent “southern cook” and enjoyed making her delicious recipes and sharing the food and recipes with others. Nell loved reading and playing SkipBo and Aggravation with her family and friends. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a wonderful wife, mother, “Mamaw” and friend who inspired us with true kindness, genuine caring, a beautiful smile, a fun story, lots of hugs and love, and helping hand to anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she had touched over the years. Nell is survived by her son Jerald and daughter-in-law Patricia, and daughter Portia and son-in-law Dave and 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Ferba; a sister-in-law Marie; and numerous nieces and nephews Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Sunday June 5, 2016 at the Glady Fork Freewill Baptist Church-Pound, VA with Pastor Mark Stallard officiating. AUDRIA JEAN GRANT WISE, VA – Audria Jean Grant, 60, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday May 29, 2016 from her residence. Her loving family was at her bedside. Audria was of the Baptist faith. She was an LPN for over 30 years having worked at Heritage Hall, Friendship Manor, Holston Manor and Wexford House during her career. Audria loved taking care of people, whether it was her family, her patients or her friends. She loved to cook and bake and she enjoyed reading. Audria was preceded in death by her parents , James Oscar Profitt, Sr. and Bertha Jean (Honeycutt) ; her sisters, Sylvia Carter and Melinda Branham; and her brothers, James Profitt, Jr. and Chester Profitt. MARGARET ELIZABETH STURGILL WHITESBURG, KY- Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Sturgill. 82, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday May 26, 2016 from the Whitesburg ARH Hospital. Her loving family members were by her side. Margaret was a Christian of the Baptist faith and attended Faith Community Church in Whitesburg, KY. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She enjoyed gardening and preserving, her flowers, cooking, and was a master seamstress. She was an independent lady, and enjoyed doing for herself as well as others. She was also a strong willed democrat. She loved the beach and its tranquility. Margaret read her Bible regularly and was a prayer warrior for her family and church community. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Estill and Lakie (Parsons) Hubbard her husband , Henry Elbert ( Pee Wee) Sturgill; sisters, Thelma Osterman and Venus Coots; and brother, Herman Hubbard and Russell Hubbard. DAVID RICHARD MULLINS POUND, VA- David Richard Mullins, 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday May 25, 2016 from the Select Specialty Hospital-Bristol, TN. His loving family was by his bedside. David was of the Baptist faith. He retired as a captain from the Wise County Sheriff's Office after 25 plus years of service. He had also previously worked at Sears in Norton and Pound for 13 years. In addition to his law enforcement career, David had a long history of public service that included serving as mayor and a town councilman in Pound, as well as membership in the Pound rescue squad and fire department and the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs. David also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and playing poker and computer games. He loved to tell stories, always embellishing them as much as possible and treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandson. David was preceded in death by his parents, Stewart R. and Ora Mullins; sisters, Loretta Adkins, Vickie Mullins and Juanita Mullins; brothers, Roger Mullins, Mike Mullins and Reverend Emmitt Mullins. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary (Boggs) Mullins-Pound, VA; daughter, Vickie Throckmorton and her husband Keith- Mechanicsville, VA and Lisa Damron and her husband Danny–Pound, VA; a son Richard Mullins-Stafford, VA; grandchildren, Aaron Hall, Melody Meade, , Lorin Hall, Andrew Boggs, Hunter Damron and Brendan Mullins; a great grandchild, Parker Meade; brothers, Reverend Danny Mullins and his wife Frieda-Pound, VA and Reverend Tommy Mullins and his wife Shirley-Norton, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends and poker buddies, G.F. Austin, Billy Large, Lonnie Sexton and Tim Kiser; and numerous other friends. LILA STALLARD VANOVER KNOXVILLE, TN- Mrs. Lila Stallard Vanover, 94, formerly of Pound, VA, passed away Wednesday May18, 2016 at the NHC Healthcare in Knoxville, TN. Lila and her husband Carlyle operated Vanover’s Grocery on Bold Camp for 18 years. They had many wonderful friends and neighbors through those years. Lila was baptized in 1958 as one of Jehovah’s witness. Lila was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Carlyle Vanover; her parents, Hobart and Lula ( Meade) Stallard; a grandson, Dewayne Bowling; six sisters and four brothers. Surviving are her son Kenny Bowling and his long-time companion Janet Phillips of Kingston, TN; her daughters Patsy Meade of Knoxville, TN; Suzy Wells and husband Hubert of Knoxville, TN and Kaye Spence of Delaware; four grandchildren, Marnie Bowling Hughes of Kingston, TN, Jamie Wells of Knoxville, TN, Jason Spence of Delaware and Holly Hudson of Delaware; five great grandchildren, with the newest arrival six weeks ago, Nash Jameson Wells; a brother, Chester Stallard of Ironton, OH; a sister Kay Gabor of San Jose, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones. MICHAEL WAYNE HAYES JENKINS, KY-Michael Wayne Hayes, 30, passed away from this life Sunday May 15, 2016 from his residence. Michael was a very loving father, son, grandson and brother. He was a coal miner with 6 plus years of experience. He had a passion for Ford Mustang cars. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles, riding motorcycles and four wheelers and find antiques. But his greatest joy was the time spent with his children. Michael was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, David Ralph Hayes and Alice Mae(Oliver) Hayes and maternal grandfather Roy Kiser. Survivors include his mother, Denita Carter and husband Marty-Burdine, KY; father, Michael Hayes-Jenkins, KY; a son, Michael Wayne Hayes Jr- Whitesburg, KY; daughters, Eden Grace Hayes and Avery JoAnna Wyatt both of Jenkins, KY; sisters, Amanda Lee Carter-Jenkins, KY, Nikki Carter Stamper and Kelli Carter both of Pikeville, KY and Lindsey Carter- Las Vegas, NV; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Doris Hall- Haymond, KY; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends and loved ones to mourn his passing and cherish his memory.
